goldfinger 135
I notice this,I zeroed my BSA Ultra .22 with standard silencer ,then I changed it to a weiruch silencer and noticed the point of impact had dropped about 1" at 20mtrs but all still grouping tightly, the I removed the silencer shooting with no silencer and the group moved up just above the standard silencer mark again grouping was ok.is this normal and can it be explained. Ron Weasley 83
Perfectly normal - I can't explain it personally, but I'm sure one of the lads on here will be able too. Altering anything on the rifle- particularly at the muzzle end will effect the POI, but as long as it's grouping correctly, then worry not, just re-zero and be happy! Quote Link to post
goldfinger 135
Thanks Ron,other shooters must have noticed this when changing silencers on the Ultra,be interesting to here other peoples experiences, yes and obviously there must be a technical explanation. Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Hi, mate. Even with a 'recoilless' PCP there is still a small amount and that causes the muzzle to rise a tiny bit when you fire. I bet if you weigh the silencers you'll find the HW one weighs slightly more than the BSA hence the muzzle will raise less with more weight on the end. Hope that makes sense. Cheers. markha 99
As above, changes in muzzle weight due to heavier/lighter silencers, and also how the harmonics are changed will effect any vibrations in the barrel as the pellet leaves the moderator/silencer, this will also give POI changes. 1 Quote Link to post
rossy08 33
this always happens, give you an idea, was out yesterday with basejumper, he's been having issues with his air ranger, so just to rule things out we took his silencer of and fitted my twink, while my twink was of the gun i has a shot at the 30m target, with silencer on hitting bull and groupeing fantastic. with silencer off, dident hit the 6" paper target at all. was quite taken aback by how much difference it can make. This is a perfect answer in laymans terms. I could go into it in more detail but Mark as hit the nail perfecly on the head. SPA Si Quote Link to post
