tearem 31 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 So, someone buys a terrier and then when it starts to do the job it was bred for a 1000 years it's not meant to....get yourself an Airedale if you really want a terrier for bushing, they can't go to ground.... I know other such stories from people who buy a Russell and they are totally against hunting...they say they will put the dog under strict discipline and will never allow it to hunt, for they don't have the dog for that... Who is happy then? The owner, the dog, both? In Germany they cross German hunt terriers with Airedales to create a breed of terrier too big to go to ground, but they will somehow wrestle in after badger and the chance they will get stuck is only bigger. Mine, some with a chest size of 40 or 45 cm and over, still creep in and all through rabbit warrens, I don't know how. If they think they want to be in there they will get in. It's a terrier thing, going to ground. And it's a politician's thing to forbid them that. The one is true and the other is illogical and hypocritical. If you want a bushing dog then buy yourself a spaniel or a French hound or any other breed that won't go to ground. Quote Link to post

I had her a year before I got into hunting so when picking her up I never intended in her hunting but when I started shooting she started bushing well . Simple answer was a locator on at all times. When you get her back out the earth try this dont stop moving towards her until she submits (prefrably laying on her back), even give her a poke in the ribs until she moves away/ignores the hole....this is basically a warning to say to her "underground is my place keep away". if it happens again within the next hour or so you get more intense which is basically saying to her do it again and your guna get it. Its what they do in packs of wolves and seem to work with disaplining my terrier and even the lurcher who is more pig headed Quote Link to post
