Guest JDF
alright all, any recomendations for a company that provides this. was having a look on petplan website but was wondering if anyone here could chip in some advice before i commit.would i be wise to put crossbreed instead of lurcher for instance. considering insurance because my previous vet(never charged me more than £20 no matter what needed done)has upped sticks and emigrated and left me to fend for myself in the real world. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Follow That Vet! No, seriously, JDF: My own brother asked me this same question, some years ago. Should he or shouldn't he insure his Dogs. I'll now give you the self same answer I gave him: " I wouldn't f*ckin bother, mate. If ye Dog needs treatment, ye find the money. " Some years down the line, having - as always - completely ignored the advice he'd asked me for, what do we have? My brother's got another Dog (a couple of insured Dogs later) and tells me; " F*ck insuring this one! What a scam that game is! If Bonzo here needs treatment; I'll just find the damn cash, comes the time! "
scottishlass 57
I would not insure my dogs what i do is put a pound in a jar everyweek or as much as i can spare maybe more maybe less, sometimes you dont touch it for years and it soon builds up
Ossie 11
got my boy insured with the NFU, quids a year, which is pretty cheap compared to some other companies! vet bills up to 2 grand per separate incident. he's covered for 3 mil public liabilty on my house contents insurance too, which includes stock worrying. i'm pretty broke, and i'd rather pay out a few quid a month while he's well, than struggle to find ££££'s and not be able to when he's not. marko 30
i have mine insured i know it costs a fortune but if you get a big hefty bill in then at least you are covered better off knowing you have it espescially if you have a lurcher.
Guest Nightwalker
Sainsbury's (Axa) pet insurance is very good with cover up to £6,500 + 3rd party liability etc or Tesco insurance. You would need a very, very big jar full of pennies to pay for some of the vet bills I have had for injuries to lurchers. If you work lurchers regularly you will get injuries, some of those can be very costly. Following some of the advice given on here, if your dog gets an injury that needs £4,000 worth of surgery could you easily find that or would you rather pay £120 annual premium and then the £50 excess? I would say that a good working dog deserves looking after properly, the premiums cost £100-120/year per dog, it's an absolute no-brainer to my eyes. Pet insurance has saved me thousands over the years.
Mars 42
i hear Tesco do very chear pet insurance Got mine with them, came in handy a couple months back when i ended up with a £600 bill
Guest JOEB
I agree with some of the above , pound in the jar yes for terriers i have insurance for the running dog though not easy to find thousands just ask Joeb Sorry Ditch mate, gonna have to disagree with you mate.........I am about £2900 in to my bitchs leg break mate.........your not gonna find that type of bread down the back of the sofa ......even allowing for the vet upping the cost a bit due to it being an insurance job Also I was able to take her to a specialist, not your local common or garden small animal vet who dont know there arse from there elbow. If I did not have insurance.........well.....it may have been different, the lead injection was never an option for this dog, but a lesser vet.....maybe she would never have run again...... If you work em hard, you are getting 4 or 5 nights pleasure from the animal.......surley you owe them a tenner a week or something.........not just a thanks, bang, goodbye. Anyway, PETPLAN all the way, every vet knows em......and you dont get messed about......cheaper is not allways better JOEB I would suggest anyone who begrudges the money, have a look and THINK ON November Last week
Guest alastair
petplan is the best i reckon, tesco etc and all them cheap ones dont cover illness for life, only one year, and every year they can up the premium depending how many claims you made, petplan stays the same whatever. towzer 3
marks and spencer do a good one a bit more of a premium but no excess to find
LDR 29
mine are insured with more than, peanuts to insure, touch wood it wil never be needed. I'm with more than too, easy to sort on the phone, 10% off first dog, 20% second, £19.50 for a lurcher and springer per month, £7000 for each new claim, £3 million liability crap, but a nice little touch i thought was a 24 hour phone number direct to a vets, a bit like nhs direct, just for advice, petplan were quoting me over £50 for the same cover!!!
