Strange this should pop up but I was just saying to the wife the other week that if we ever broke up, that would be me, vamoose , gone off the grid whatever   None of this Thailand bollocks, just a

it takes a special type of miserable cxnt to live this life style on ya own,, but its easier lol..

everytime i consider getting a divorce i start to dwell on this idea, me and the dogs travelling around europe catching our own food etc.... then reality kicks in, ie; money matters, theres some necessitys that you have to have money in your pocket for :(

If i'd have had two pennies to rub together after my divorce i'd of done it then definately, i guess it all depends on what you can do without, whether you have a house to rent to cover your mortgage etc etc....

Ali, your right, one of the reasons i love Lincolnshire is because the way of life seems slower....

I believe there are two RAF bases within similar distance of sleaford; Cranwell and Barkston Heath if that helps.

Lived a similar kind of life for a time, its great, it really is, until you get ill, or break your arm, or something. Then it's just f*****g tough. Or when you get somewhere yu cant find something to eat, or at least nothing interesting, and its the same shitty rice/lentils day after day. Can get pretty lonely as well, if your a lone. Twas great fun tho, and the one trip i did 10,000 miles and got as far as the Iranian border by accident!

Fascinating, did you go alone, how long did you do it for......

I've done a number of trips, that one was with a girl (my girlfriend at the time), and the only time i have had someone else there for the whole trip. We took a somewhat modified, old citreon hatchback, fishing rods, some snares, assorted other shit and got lost for about 7 months or more maybe, so not that long a trip. We didnt have any plan, but ended up blitzing through france and italy, then meandering through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, montenegro, albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, over to the far side, back, through bulgaria, romania, moldova, hungary, slovakia, then circumstances forced a race back through austria, germany, and some pleasant and peaceful time on a dutch beach before ending up in scotland in a wee log cabin in the middle of knowhere for a year and a bit. . . . . . and then went off again.

In that time i think we slept in a bed for maybe 2, 3 nights, the rest of the time was spent on the ground. We pretty much avoided all cities, had a map, and just explored national parks, mountains, coastlines, anywhere green on the map and under inhabited. Caught a whole load of weird and wonderful fish and various game, and lots of pilfered fruit and veg. Its handy that the east of europe is littered with springs, and the people are incredibly hospitable. We only met a couple of other foreigners and explored some truly remote and amazing places. Also the car didnt break down once, but i did hit a deer in the italian dolomites, but that was fairly welcome.

Very interesting

Just wondered with all the traveller threads, who really fancies a travellers lifestyle, and i don't mean the modern day settled council run sites, but either a horse drawn vardo, a converted bus or similar. Personally the romantic idea of travelling remote areas of Britain, perhaps Europe and sitting outside around an open fire on a summer evening, fishing, letting your dog catch your game. Although real life gets in the way with mortgages, jobs, money and responsibilities..........

what about the winter when you cant get a fire going and your boots are frozen to the ground outside the wagon

I dont think it would as good as others may think. My mate went travelling around Australia a few years back and lasted 9 months. Open roads, bright blue skies, bbq's on the beach every other night and amazing wildlife yet still said enoughs enough...

I was the same with my playboy lifestyle.... You get fed up with too much of a good thing..... Aye right.

Might have been something to do with travelling with his girl' at the time......

Cant see the fasination with it. I like to know what i'm doing the next day and the next.......i'm sure money would be a massive issue and just cause unwanted grief along the way. Al just stick to my house thanks very much...

i,ll take a guess what you will be doing the next day and the next you will be on here.
