FightTheBan 1,147
I used to put bits of bread on the end of a long fishing line with a hook on the end and fish for seagulls. (joke) FTB Edited February 23, 2011 by FightTheBan
FightTheBan 1,147
I love songbirds imagine a world without them and how quiet it would be!!when i was a kid I used to tie a long piece of string to a wooden peg and balance a shopping basket on top on one side with loads of bread underneath and hide in the garage waiting for the birds to come. Then when they were confident of going under id pull the string and the basket would capture the birds! 9 out of 10 times it would be a sparrow but i caught many robins, blackbirds, blue tits, starlings etc but my best ever was a pair of yellow hammers!! Thinking back now that must of been atleast 20 yrs ago but i can still remember the excitement of catching them two cracking little birds in one go like it was yesterday! I also used to have a sparrow trap that id set before school and rush home after to check it and that was always a good way to catch them! It was a round net trap that when set was a half moon shape and you would but some bread on the scoop and when the bird pecked it it would release one side of the trap and catch the bird in the net! i used to let them all fly of unharmed and it was great fun for a kid! I had a tele when i was younger.............. Now theres a lie if ever I heard one. FTB

I know...it's shocking. Have you ever seen the bicarbonate soda trick? I was always told about it but never seen it...i found it more exciting to dope them up a bit on antifreeze then hit them with a tennis racket. baw 4,360
Like you FTB only heard about it, I can't see how it can work to be honest. I remember collecting eggs when I was a lad, for scientific research. Anyhow, cloaks this mistle thrush on the nest, I knew the scientists didn't have one of those eggs so I tried to shoo the bird off the nest but it wouldn't budge. Too good an opportunity to miss I started to slip my hand under her to get an egg, well...... She went mental.... Pecked f**k out My hand till I moved it and the latched on to my nose.... I was screaming like a girl trying to pull it off. Sad to say but that thrush beat the shit out of me something that I haven't admitted to this day.
