grey mk/1-mk2box?

iv just been given a grey nocker box off a old feller for taking him ferreting but on the wheel it says mk2 will mk1 collars work?the box is a 8ft but can i use 15 ft collars? and will it pick them up at 15ft or just 8ft.

it will work with any mk1 collars.. you say the box is 8ft so it will only pick up to 8ft even with a 15ft collar.. atb

yes it's still the mk1 even thou deben made a few upgrade's to the grey box's.. i've got a couple of the grey box's when i take the cover off them on the on/off wheel it say's mk1/mk2/mk3. i can't see the difference myself. atb

All the grey rectangular boxes are known as Mk1.

 

There are 3 variants of the stickers for the wheels that confusingly are labeled Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3. Have never seen a Mk1 sticker myself.

 

The depth the box reads to is determined by the collar. So an 8' box used with a 15' collar will still locate to 15'. You just double up the distance the sticker is telling.

 

Basically the difference between an 8' and 15' box is the sticker on the wheel.

if thats the case why did'nt deben just make a 15ft box to pick up the 8ft&15ft collars then.. i've just tried the 8ft box on a 15ft collar an it's only picking up at 8ft.

well if its an 8ft box it could nt say 15ft could it? Bet the wheel was fully turned when it read 8ft now if you put a 15ft sticker on the same wheel switch it on fully and it will read 15ft when your 8ft collars 8ft away

As already stated the boxes are all the same apart from the stickers on the wheel

The original 8ft box will pick up either the original 15ft collars or the new mrk 3 collars at a greater distance than 8ft if they are in a good condition. The Carbon rod went in a mrk 3 out in the field this season so we used a spare knocker box for the day with he mrk 3 collars and proved we could pick them up at around 15ft and this was an 8ft box. The grey boxes are the same as has been said just slightly diferent calibration so you may not get a true reading but it is the collar that determains the range not the box.If you can't detect a 15ft collar at more than 8 ft with any knocker box then its getting ready for a service if you can find somebody that will still do it

OK do you think deben would go to the trouble of making 2 seperate boxes when they could make 1 box and just add either a 15or 8ft sticker?

Of course an 8ft box will only pick up a 15ft collar to 8ft thats the maximum it will read to but it will be 15ft IF THE BOX IS TRUE, Likewise if a 15ft box says 15ft to an 8ft collar it will be 8ft not 15ft common sense really

kid,, stand on a ladder, put your 15 foot collar on the floor, go up the ladder with your 8 foot box,, it will still pick the 15 foot collar up,
