lampingboy 213 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Share Posted February 21, 2011 Hi lads ,how are you all?? i was in work saturday morning when i got a text from Derboy saying he was going out for an hour or two shooting and he was happy for me to join him,i quickly obliged and he kindly picked me up at half one from my house. He said we could do some target practice so we filled some milk cartons and coke bottles with water. We soon arrived at the farm and had a quick chat with the farmers wife ,sally. We then pulled down behind one of the barns ,and were overlooking 2 banked fields,after five minutes derwin quickly spotted a crow at a good 250 yards,got him in the sight ready for me ,i then got in persition to take the shot,he was reasurring me to take my time and wait for a good shot,the crow poaked his head up and crack ,a cloud of feathers haha. He then spotted another pigeon which i failed to hit but he reasurred me it happens to the best of us . We then decided to go and shoot some targets,we spotten a big number of crows perched in the tree tops ,but with no good backstop they were out of bounds.We setup the bottles and cartons at around 100 yards (his zero range) and i missed a few but with a few tips from derwin and a better feel of what i was doing wrong i then got the hang of it.I now realise the importance of a very slow and steady trigger pull more than ever and i must say the exploding milk cartons put on a good show too. I also managed to repeatedly hit a small log at atleast 200 yards. It was a really good day out and i seriously enjoyed it and feel im learning ALOT each and everytime i go out,not just about shooting technique but the most important factor in shooting firearms,Safety! . We were shooting the remington 700 .204 with the night force scope and 40g balistic tips if my memory serves??? i also managed to put a few rounds through derwins Tikka T3 .308 with swarovski z6i,(which i love!! lol) i really love both guns but i really loved the lightness of the T3 and enjoy the recoil it gives haha im having trouble uploading pics at the moment and can only get one up,but i will try and get more up asap. heres a pic of me shouldering the .308 T3. jamie g 17 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Share Posted February 21, 2011 good write up. good to see others taking someone under there wing and showing them the ropes. wish more younger people where interested in shooting getting out in the fresh air. and injoying what our countryside has to offer them. it also teaches them safety with firearms and in the future im sure they will past that on to other younger people coming into the sport Quote Link to post

I have a 19 year old son and would love him to come out with me but he is too busy sitting in front of his X box. I personally believe that if more of the younger generation were shown how to shoot and the resposibilities that handling a firearms entails, that there would be less petty crime around. I can see by the look on your face that you enjoyed it ..... As happy as a pig in shit..... Also hats of to Derboy for taking you. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17 Posted February 22, 2011 Report Share Posted February 22, 2011 thanks jamie,only recently got back into shooting and now firearms and shotguns have put a whole new perspective and interest into my shooting and enjoyment of it ! cant wait to apply for my fac and sgc Brad. i remember when i was 1st applying for fac brad. one of the lads off a different forum invited me over to his permission in hereford. shot fac air, 22lr and 223 in a nice big safe hillside of a quarry. soon as i had shot them i new those fac forms would be going in the next day 6 months past and then i got my fac with some local land i had permission on. over the coming months i become good friends with a couple of the lads on the forum and got invited to theres most weekends shooting rabbits with the 22lr and hmr. i also helpped out by lamping for them as they controled the foxes. after a year i then put in for 22/250 and got that then some months down the line got my ticket open. and havent looked back since. once you really start to get into it your want to reload for cf to. your learn a great deal about your rifle then. let us know how you get on with your fac forms etc safe shooting atb jamie Quote Link to post

You hit the nail on the head there mate,ive been looking into reloading alot in the last week lol ie preogressive machines and seeing what bits n bobs are needed as i really want to start reloading! hope you enjoyed the read mate atb Brad.
