.Joe 0
Well, i am sad to see it go, but i have had a brilliant first season. (Photos to follow) A very good friend of mine has been taking me out, i've got to know the marsh and had some very very interesting flights. Sunday the 20th th tide was rubbish for us. It a 5.0 at 0021 so we werent expecting much. We got sat down in our favourite spot expecting the place to be packed with fowlers but it was just dog walkers. We set the decoys and waited. Not a single duck! Now we have seen some incredible numbers of duck this year, only coming away empty handed on 2 occasions, so to not see a duck or hear another shot was very unusual. Still, we waited as a pair of pintail passed slightly out of range. Wigeon, a pair coming straight up the channel turned to the call and were perfect driven birds..missed, both barrels! After the ear bashing i recieved from my mate for missing the best pair of duck all season, we settled back down. Another long, quiet wait follwed when a single duck appeared to my left, circled just out of range enough for me to identify it as a drake Goldeneye. It curled beautifuly and came as a right to left crosser. Now, i have shot awfully this season, i mean really dreadfully! But he was hit with the first and i followed up and killed stone dead with the second. A beautiful drake goldeneye to finish the best season of my life. We havent taken great numbers but i have been out on some brilliant flights, take some great shots and seen, shot and enjoyed eating some of the most rewarding birds. This season had me shoot : Pintail, Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Goldeneye, Mallard and Canadas. The only thing is, the 1st of September seems a long long way away, but it gives enough time to sort the gear out, replace and renew everything and get ready for more brilliant months of rewarding sport.
