Guest world.hunters
went out this morning with REW he took his ferret and lucher and i had my gsd and harris hawk. my bird was out of action for a while due to a squirrel biteing her on her lower back, but she is spot on now and this was her first time out in the Daytime for a while. we ferreted a few warrens but not eve none bolt from them. we desided to make our way to a small wood where i allow the dog to flush while harris is in trees above, we did see a hare or 2 but to no luck she also was very close to catching what i believed to of been a pigeon as the dog was up in front, when the bird took pursuite of her prey. she dived down and all i saw was somethink grey in colour take off low to the ground so maybe a pigeon maybe a squirrle. as we continued on and she was off free she took of and landed in some high branches as i watched her concentrating i knew she had seen somethink but i was not sure of what, next thing i know she is scatering and gliding down the tree close to the trunk with a squirrel in her feet.... i ran down praying she would not get bit but when they both hit the ground the squirrle managed to escape.... we moved on and yet again she spotted one of the little feckers this time she grabbed it 1 foot on its head other on its sholders. i was shiting my self as she had caught it high up and i thought she may stay up there but she came down to the floor with it clutched in her talons. there was no way in hell this was getting away and she seemed to of learned from her mistake of grabbing it from its back end before. i quickly got to them and killed the squirrel. there is no way of stopping the bird from chasing squirrels she . im not a big fan of hunting them with a harris due to the damage they can cause but as i said here is not much that can really be done except get some squirrel chaps just in case. im just hopeing that if there is a rabbit or a squirrle that she will go for the rabbit lol on the way back, sat down for a little while and bird started hunting up on foot lol. was sat on a field that had loads of little patches of dry grass and she would walk around the and then jump on them trying to flush prey out i suspect it was really good to watch and really intresting lol. she would check one out and moved on to the other and so on. she has done this a few times.... anyone else seen this with there bird????? cheers heres a few pics from today Quote Link to post
