mongoose 39
What you all talking about shooting foxes up tubes with terriers still grafting? You wouldnt do it with a 12 bore so why with a .22 or a 410? Learn the hard way. FTB If your referring to my comment I didn't say the terrier is still in grafting, they get lifted when you break through(sure you know that) but the fox isn't always on the end of the barrel(sure you know that too)..... dean 11
I have and use a .22 revolver and it does the job ok but having seen a .410 used i think i prefer it overall as its more versitile Quote Link to post
OldNog 432
to quote the warrener on one of his dvds after digging a fox which was despatched at point blank "Those .410s really do the job dont then" haha Quote Link to post
irishnut 297
i'm thinking of getting a 22lr revolver for dispatch, will the fuzz approve me for it, when i already have a 22lr rifle. i don't own a lurcher to draw, and carrying a shotgun or rifle is a pain in the arse. which revolver is the best for the job, i was thinking that the shorter the barrel the better, 2" or 3" is plenty. i'm also a firm believer in NOT using semi-autos as its not needed and adds unnecessary places for dirty to build up and cause miss fire Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
>22lr is perfect for digging and general dispatch you could go .32 or even .357 but ammo costs go up 100 .357 American eagle are £60 Here are mine top is a 6 shot .357mag smith and wessson 686 bottom is a .22lr 10 shot walther p22 yes please!! "Earth!" 503
Regarding the use of a captive bolt,NEVER AGAIN.. Had a mishap the once. They were fine IF you have a firm grip of the fox but useless if trying to dispatch when up the end of a tight tube as that bolt needs to reach the skull which is hard when all you can see is the muzzle and eyes unless opened up more.
