some advice needed

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of getting an air rifle to sort a problem I am having.

Our back garden backs on to a wood and we have a large tree in the corner where all the local woodies and magpies want to sit and shit all over the washing line and clothes when they are out.

It's pissing both me and our lass off ( as I look out now there are 5 wood pigeons in the tree now and this morning there were 6 magpies.)

So I want a cheap rifle to shoot out the window, about 10-15 yards and drop these messy b**tards. I won't use it for anything else just this?

Any ideas anyone

Thanks

What's your budget?

Cheap is one thing but some cheap rifles aren't upto anything other than shooting tin cans. What can you stretch to?

At the range you mention,i would go for something secondhand if ye want to keep the price down.

Something like a Bsa Lightning, meteor or a decent airsporter. Webley vulcan, exocet, stingray an old Tracker. Either calibre will kill em at that range, tho id be tempted to go with a .22 as the .177 may go straight through them at close range.

You could even get away with open sights at 10 - 15 yards.

Get a grill pan and a lot of fuses thats what we did years a go just wire the grill pan to a plug socket and sprinkel with bread bird sead [bANNED TEXT] they land switch the plug on it will blow the fuse just change fuse and away you go.ps there ready to eat. :11:

Thanks for the advice geordie, I was thinking of one of the lighter guns as my 11 year old son would like to use it. I fancy a tracker, I had one as a kid and was a nice gun.

The shame is I have a Diana 52 back in Ireland but it is FAC at about 25ftlbs and there is no way I wnat to shoot at 10 yeards with that, the rebound if it hit the tree :hunter: would probably break all the kitchen windows....lol :11:

I'll try the local gunshops over the next few days
