Another good night

Headed out again last night, Rolf weighed in at 1lb 5.6, off we went. First field we done, we had 1 or 2 flights, but all were very close to cover, had to get out though, when a couple of cows and calfs were pestering us lol. Next field we had another flight, it was another sitting right beside cover. Got to the end of that field, and looked over into the next field, 2 rabbits ran as I put the light on, so I slipped him, brilliant flight, but didn’t manage to hold it, ended up in a shuck, came out soaked to bits lol. Few flights should dry him out. Headed into next field, but by the time we climbed over the gate, there was 1 or 2, but by the time I got close and put the light on they had already gone. Crossed over a small shuck and into another field, nothing out. So over another fence. At the brough of the field I seen a few rabbits run, turned lamp of and tried to get cross. We I got to the little rise in the field. There was one rabbit about 20 feet from cover, put the beam on and lamped up, it bolted before we got near, but enough time for rolf to catch up, and nail it with two feet to the head. First of the night. Got him off and headed on. Seen another rabbit or 2 but couldn’t get close enough. Then into a part of the farm that I have only lamped the once. First flight was one that ill remember well. Seen this rabbit right on a ditch, but walked it up anyway, Rolf was off. It ran along the ditch, Rolf striked at its arse, and it leaped about 2 feet in the air! Bloody amazing, then turned and headed for another ditch across the field, he had another strike at it but missed. That rabbit dissevered to get away lol! Had another 2 flights in that field, really good ones too, but each time he just crashed into cover with nothing. The next field was empty, but we had a look over a wall and seen about 5 rabbits bolt for cover, 1 of which was a black rabbit! So we climbed it (ok wasn’t a wall as such lol, just piles of stone and slabs) when we got into the field, none of those rabbits were about. But there were 2 at the far end, as we approached, one got down and squatted, got close to it, and it bolted, Rolf striked but missed, then turned and got back on turns with it just near the wall we had climbed. But as he went in to strike the rabbit turned, never seen one turn as quick as it lol, knock Rolf off the flight completely. After that we had another scan, and seen one right along the fence, along the fence line and slipped Rolf, it headed right out in the open, yet again to the stone wall! Bloody brilliant flight, but with no kill at the end. We then had to head back to the lane, sort of lost our bearings lol. Got back to the lane, and the field next to it is a lovely big one. Had a quick look and seen two about 50 yards from any cover, we approached them from the cover, one bolted, Rolf bated so I had to let him go, but didn’t move the lamp, so he changed his mind and went for the squatter, as he got close to it, it bolted, Rolf headed to the right and striked, but missed, it was approaching cover about 100 yards away at the far side of the field, Rolf had another strike, but missed again, then just before it was getting into the ditch, rolf nailed it by the arse. He had a jockey ride for a bit, we ran like hell. The rabbit managed to drag him into the ditch and he anchored it with his wings. Well I couldn’t ask for more than that, brilliant flight, and he served a feed up and the jockey ride. So called it a night at that. By far one of the best nights yet, even though it started of bad.
