my god i had forgotten all this stuff, brought up on a farm, or should i say brought my self up on a farm, at seven had my first airgun, at nine had a bolt action fourten , at eleven had a side by side twenty bore, all of these i would just go for miles around on my own, me mum and dad would just leave me to it . once my jobs were done, my time was my own. Fell into a swollen river and remember being under the water seeing all the fresh water shrimps and thinking time to get to the bank before i drown. You could ramble on for years about the stuff that happened. Dont know if there were social workers back then but if one now was to find parents like i did, these days, god only knows what the courts would do to them. OOPS sorry yes i do ,they would give them a bigger hand out, and a nice foreign holiday to teach them the error of their ways.

great thread look forwards to reading the rest of us old farts ramblings, now wheres me bed pan gone this time.:clapper::laugh:

When we were about 12/13 we used to hide in the bushes and shoot the strawberry pickers with our slug guns (webley scott hawk) I'd hit the roof if I found out my lads were doing this now.

In the winter we ferreted and hunted our dubiously bred lurchers and terriers at every oportunity (sometimes at the expense of school lessons).

We fished for Trout (uninvited) at a nearby posh fishing club - defying the members (they couldnt catch us)

In the summer we played footie until the light was so bad we couldn't see the ball. Exept when Wimbledon was

on,for two weeks we all thought we were Bjorn Borg.

When I was 14, my young terrier bolted a fox into a net one Saturday morning next to an old factory,me and my mate were so chuffed by this,we put the live fox in a sack, jumped on a busy bus,and took the fox home to show all our mates. My dad went feckin mental, gave me a lecture on animal dignity, then released it (unharmed). My mum stills brings it up at family gatherings to this day.

Great days -If I could go back in time, I wouldnt change a thing. ;)

Long rifles where free available without a permit or license! 100£

We NEVER had to lock the backdoor (not even when we sleep at night)

We looked to our sisters fanny (without going to jail) :icon_eek::icon_redface::icon_redface:

We stole a bucket with cherry's (with the same sisters from above), and the only punishment we had was the shiiit running from our legs for 2 days :)

Poaching was generaly accepted (in my neighborhood)

Dogs where running free on the streets, everywhere.

We knew nothing! no wars, no melting north pole or Kyoto norms, no politics, no nothing...

Those where the days... 37 years ago, when I was 10.
