I have a cat that keeps coming in my garden and I told the owner to stop the cat coming in my garden as I have birds on the lawn. The owner said that he could not stop his cat going into my garden. I said that I could not tolerate a cat in my garden. When I asked the police to help I was told it was nothing to do with them unless I harmed the cat even if I was protecting my birds. I said if my dog went into the person's garden and killed the cat I would be liable for an out of control dog yet if a cat comes into my garden I cannot react to protect my birds.

 

 

I have had to net the whole of my garden to protect my birds from a cat that the owners just lets out all night.

 

 

Has anyone else had a similar experience and what was the outcome?

 

 

 

Pease no comments on hurting cats as the Authorities read this Forum, I want to know people's experiences and to act lawfully.

cats have the queens right to roam but if theyre causing damage to land property or other animals the landowner has the right to renove or destroy

if a cat dose not have a collar on is it not classed as ferrel witch would make it legal to be disposed of. if not a good soaking with the hose pipe will do the trick.

 

 

 

I do not know but I have asked the police to give me more details.

The right seems to be only moral and not legal.

Hose it off or super soaker it and if your consistant its should eventully get fed up of getting soaked and stop coming in the garden!

The times it may come in the garden you may be out. In fact the times I have known the cat to be in my garden I have been out.

feed it and smother it in beech tar ( not poisonous) and you wont need to kill it as its owners will do that when it goes home and jumps on the sofa lol.

My point precisely, my dogs worry a sheep worth very little and the farmer can kill my priceless dogs yet a cat tries to kill my valuable birds and I must not do anything to the cat. Using a hose pipe even if possible could be seen as causing unnecessary suffering.

Seriously feed it so it does not go home. Eventually the owners will give up on it then rehome it. Not illegal to feed a cat.

 

 

Failing that infest your garden with mice/rats. Poison the mice/rats which is legal and see what happens to the cat.

Sorry i have not been available but my lady friend has been realy poorely for a while,

If the cat is feral WHICH it sounds to be you are well within your rights to dispose of it if it is causing problems with your livestock.

Trap it and take it to the local cat centre they will deal with it.

 

I had similar problems around my way but after four occourences with my dog's the cat problem seemed to subside.. .
