Lloyd90 509
What would you guys say is best first lurcher ? For the purpose of a pot filler with things like rabbits, looking for a mooch about in the day and also to be lamping. My mate says something like a whippet crossed with a beddy/whippet. Also have read collie x greyhound are great first dogs ? What about something like a collie/grey x beddy/whippet ? Anyone work these ? Dont want a dog that is massive lol Also what type of things would you use them on, pre ban of course ? Would they pull down say a fallow ? Have had and trained a labrador for picking up and a springer spaniel, not to an amazing standard but good enough for some wild fowling n rough shooting Edited February 19, 2011 by Bigthug87 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,687
couple of pics of mine 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and jack russel good little dogs and nice easy dogs to keep. A bit on the small side obviously for bigger stuff but good fun for mooching and ferreting ( she's only young so next season will know more about lamping)easy to train and if your not kenneling them nice dogs in the house. BEARINATOR 2,872
Yes whippet x grey, anything with collie in as a base line will have the brains. I prefer deer/grey x collie/greys for all quarry pre-ban running but I've got a saluki cross lurcher pup now Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
Just going on my own exspeireinces a lurcher to lurcher bred dog would be an ideal first choice along the lines you have mentioned collie/grey x beddy/grey. Quote Link to post
gamerooster 1,179
i would go with a 1/2 greyhound 1/4 collie 1/4 saluki or a 5/8 greyhound 3/8 collie Quote Link to post
klashnekoff 3
Its always hard to answer as different people have different preferances. Personly i think a good collie x Quote Link to post

Penda 3,341
Id either go for a collie greyhound or id get a beddy whippet mate cant go wrong for a pot filler with either of those day or night time Quote Link to post
tallyboy 32
alreet mate i'm no expert on lurchers but i've had a couple and my first one was a beddy/grey x beddy/whippet and she's a crackin little bitch, done everything i could ask of her and more, if i was you i'd steer clear of anything with saluki in it bit too head strong for your first lurcher atb Tony Quote Link to post
