pup got spinal damage

Bad luck indeed: with the dog being young time and rest might put it right, but I'd be tempted to see a good greyhound vet cum chiropractor. Backs are delicate things indeed. Had two such accidents with no happy outcome, but have heard of others where there was no breaks but something they call spinal shock from which the dog can recover. All the best.

Good luck mate - but hopefull a couple of lines of encouragement.

My JRT went missing one night when I was out with her, terrible night -windy, rain, storms etc - it was only about 1/2 mile from where I live - couldn't find her anywhere so reluctantly went home. The next morning very early I went out looking for her and saw a very sad sight dragging herself up our road - using only her front two legs to pull her aong - the back end of her was basically squashed.- every time you tried to stand her - her back legs just did the splits. The Vet said either an earth or a heavy branch must have hit her on top of the back (rather than a car hitting her from the side) because of the type of injury - she'd dislocated both back legs and he could make some kind of splint but it was unlikely that she would keep it on - he just said the muscles would build back up and pull her back together. It took about 2 months for her to walk properly - but now you'd never know she'ddone it.

 

Also, if you are not confident in your vet take it for a second opinion - just this week my mate got told to put his 8 year old JRT down - only to be told by another vet it had a totally different ailment and didn't need putting down!

hope all is ok mate, i read on another forum a while back aboout a pup with spinal injuries, the lad posted not that long ago aand the pup was running around full gallop, do it right as i know you will den and it will all be fine,

cheers penny , fingers crossed , got him out his cage this morning , theres no change , but he's rying to wag his tail , yesterday he did'nt have the power to do that , so hopefully the drugs are starting to work---i'll keep you posted on progress

thats what robbie was like den he coudent keep balens but he coudent get up for 20min so fingers crossed mate [bANNED TEXT] getting the kind a luck i had 3 years ago evrything i touched somthing happend to ahope hes ok pal

There was someone on here a few weeks ago whos dog hit a ditch badly and had a fit and f****d its back up. Last i heard it was on the mend. Cant remember who it was now. Would be interested to hear how it is.

 

Dennned from what you say it sounds promising mate, i hope the pup gets better. There tough little sods.

As Skycat says , a good running dog vet is the way to go.I had a dog hit a banking he turned a somersalt chipped off a piece of bone, took him to Desi Fegan,then at Milton Keynes track, he injected some stuff around the errant bone, and isolated it, so that it caused no further problems .

All the best with your dog ,hope its a positive outcome,I have one here now with his leg in a splint ,[dislocated wrist,]so I know how you feel.

inan- i it was my brindle pup 9 months that knocked him over, he broke both bones in his front leg, age 12 weeks , youd never know he done it , mended brilliantly , so heres hoping this will too

ross , it's times like this , that make you think of chucking it all in , bred dogs for years 28 to be exact , to get what i got now , then this happens---think them fking anti's put a curse on me , lol

ok , just back from vets , pup had an xray, he has split his pelvis , vet reckons 4>>>5 mil, not a huge gap , but one that will heal in time , he also has a little sciatic nerve damage , which will heal too , so it's 6>>>>10 weeks cage confinement , tough i know , but neccessary, keep you all posted on the progress , at least not spinal , as was first thought , ---den

ronnie's doing great thanks, rabbitracer, he has got gears for a young dog , wont be rushing with him though , after what he's been through , nerxt season looking good already though , lol
