waidmann 105
The damage caused by raccoon in Germany by both species is immense (financial and ecological!!!) The very idea of intentionally introducing them to Britain preposterous . There are some very good documentaries around mostly filmed in the Kassel area of hessen which show very well the damage caused by raccoon in urban areas, they make Charlie look like a cherub! Stripping roofs, removing insulation blocking chimneys to name just a few. Bins and skips have to be locked down ( I have seen a video where there were twelve of the buggers in one skip feeding, scrapping and making a right royal mess!!). Damage to crops, maize, milk ripe oats and any fruit at all are fair game. I am amazed that there are none in the uk to date as they are kept as pets by some. As I have said before they can spread like wild fire even from a very tight gene base with no apparent effects on health of the population or even colour changes! Amazing critters tbf. Waidmannsheil!! 1 Quote Link to post
