At this time of the year if the lake is deep i would use a mix of sensas lake with some dead pinkies/red maggots/casters mixed in through a block end feeder or through a cage feeder if the lake is fairly shallow.Use a 12" 3lb hooklength and cast every 20 mins or so depending on bites.

Try a cage feeder. Mash up some bread with sweetcorn and squeeze it onto the feeder with breadflake or sweetcorn on 12-14 size hook. Maybe try mixing a bit at a time til you get the consistency right (to soggy and it will just fall out). Good for all silver fish, carp, tench etc.

If you find your not catching with the maggot feeder (which you should do really) try increasing your hooklength and down size the hook. Enlarge of a few of the holes and for the first hour re cast every 10 mins (6 casts) then after reduce to 20-25 mins. Ive also found that maggot in the feeder with a nice fat worm works very well, and a popped up lob over maggot can produce some nice Perch.

keep it simple mate, know your rig, and alr=ternate your bait.. It all depends on the time of year, the depth of your peg, the amount of fish in front of you. Anatuaral lake will fish totally different to a well stocked lake. Find out what others are using, and be one step ahead. The main thing to take in to concideration is the clarity of the water, the temperature, and the wind direction( a key factor for big bream hauls).. Atb Russ.

 Hemp is just a fish holding bait. The more hemp you add to other baits the longer the fish stay. Shieving through the groundbait. Add crushed casters to your hemp and you'll go even further. However most other anglers try the on heavily fished waters, this is worth remembering if bites dont come quickly. Casters do however produce the bigger fish out of the shoals..

If it's Bream your after then use brown crumb groundbait. Get some Molasses and add a little to the mix, Bream like sweet baits. Mix the groundbait so it will just hold together, use an open ended feeder. Put plenty of Casters in with the groundbait, and when you fill the open ender sprinkle a few Squatts in with it aswell. Use the line clip on the reel spool and line yourself up with a far bank tree or similar, that way when you cast, you'll keep casting to the same spot. Cast the filled feeder 10 or so times first to get some bait in, then put your hook and bait on, (Double red maggot is a good choice, or a redworm) keep casting in regular and fill your net.

Best of luck.

lol, course i have.ave had them to just short of 3lb...I do a lot of filling in mate for bream, big bream, loch maben for example. You need to be dropping at least 30lb of bread crumb with 4-5 pints of casters(crushed casters in the ball sinks then fizz,s, grt atractor) 4-5 pints of squatt, same number of pinkies, same maggots, 20 or so tins of sweetcorn, buckets of worms, Then get your head down in your bivvy, wait for that 1st liner, then be ready, they are easily missed and the sheer size of the shoals and of the bream, they have been and gone sometimes with in the hour....if missed, its a lot of money wasted.

Dont understand why you asked the question, Have i never caught roach on hemp.... I have had rudd(slow sinking) crusians, perch, carp etc.

I have 2 or 3 of my tanks stuffed with roach upto 2lb mate..
