jagdterriers

talking about dog size a well built dog with bood angles, and a real passion for the job can push himself were a smaller sized can't.

If you have two terriers of equal working ability, same athletic build but one larger than the other, how can the larger one get where the smaller one can't ?

Both dogs want to get to their quarry with the same amount of heart, one is physically more able than the other so logically it should be able to get further up a tube than the larger dog.

My only experience is obviously with fox, maybe terriers shrink when used for Badger.

Have you never had a dog stuck, being hurt by his quarry and not able to react 'cos its too big, or a terrier that cannot get close to its quarry for the same reason. I know i have and for that reason i avoid keeping large terrier's, only keeping terriers with a big heart.

I reckon the lads who work their Jagd's do the same matey.

Good to talk about a different breed in another country though, after all we are all in the same game lads. ;)

:D but about what size we talk about ? Like i say most Jagd´s are the same size than Patt´s , Few are lower , few are more but mostly the same ! In Us they need the smaller dog´s , Ok for them , but we need every size here but we don´t talk bad about smaller dog´s or the job´s they had to do !

We need small dog´s for the Foxes in Rabbitdens , we need medium sized dog´s for normal Foxdens and Badgers and the Bigger one´s we can use for boars ! and only while the US Dude need the small dog´s for the groundhog´s , big dog´s are bad ?!

It isn´t allways the the big dog wich gets hurt by his quarry ;) !

For a good job ( whatever that is ) every Terrier with everysize need a big heart and that´s the dog´s i like , if it is a Jagd , a Patt , a Jack Russel , a Fox Terrier or a x it dosen´t matter !

ps. but Fact is the Jagd Terrier is a breed bred only for work and only from the best´s workers and NOT for show´s or look !

I agree Steezy, we are talking about Earth dogs here and you will need small, madium, large dogs for lots of different jobs. Otherwise some quarry would not be open to you. Most working dogs here are bred for work only, but, i like a certain type of dog and so do you.The Jagd was not made of worker to worker breeding, it was made like frankenstein, a creation to do a job from whatever worked best and looked like the "creator" wanted it to look like.

The Patterdale/Fell/Smooth/wire haired/slape/ black/Chocolate is a working terrier that looks the way it does because thats how it turned out, not black and tan 'cos Adolf's mate liked it that way.

We agree on lots because i respect your views on working terriers and types, different size and gameness. You are fortunate to still work your dogs as we would like to here,

Keep up the good work shag and get some more pictures up.

To me the problem is what you think is too big?most of the jagdterriers I've seen and worked with are smaller than my russell I think bitches are 12/13 inches and sogs are 13/14 inches only the biggest dogs are bigger and a serius hunter will not breed from bigger ones unless he is interested only in boars hunting or blood trailing. My russell is 14' and 20 pounds when hunting fit and he works well for me,we dont have rabbit dens here,we have porcupine's and badger's sets, and a good amount of rock cracks were dogs need some legs.I need a strongly built dog but I dont come here stating small dogs are not good, small dogs are needed where tubes are tight and to work small quarry.I respect every dog that works well for his owner.

dig deep into your souls lads.....working and hunting terriers has nothing to do with baiting animals in artificial conditions, human sadism comes to mind.......im watching you matulkoh......respect your quarry.

I think Spoof you are not an hunter, you don't know one hell of a thing about terrier work, you have not even read the last two pages of the topic :censored: ,we were talking about jagdterriers and working terriers size.

Totally agree with you there Valerio, keep talking terriers mate.

The proper earth working Jagd's could not possibly be anything than the right size for their job could they, otherwise they wouldn't be used and no one would keep them.

Keeper i know worked in Scotland and always had leggy Terriers for getting around those rock places to.

Spoof, no one is condoning baiting animals shag. If its legal wherever those links come from so what, if you don't like it don't look.Or better still get on a plane and go over to bongo bongo land and tell them :big_boss: .

I'm sure you will have no problem getting your point over.

Look out spoof is watching you lad!!! I don't see what all the fuss is about, if antis are reading this thread and read all of it they will gather that in some european countries that's life here in the so called "British Isles" it does'nt happen so who gives a flying fcuk? Those lads on the continent are working their dogs on big game, giving their dogs the proper testing that they deserve while there's guys here dig a few foxes and they think their dogs are world beaters??? Fcuk sake c'mon like, those guys have the freedom to hunt and there's guys here slating them for being able to hunt big game legaly, go have a coke and a smile and shut the fcuk up. Keep the post comming you guys from europe at least some of us will enjoy reading them.

As for Mr burns sure in the States they work dogs that are imported from the you know who's of not the terrier world but the money world, piss poor dogs that could nearly work rabbit warrens, put them into a decent dog fox they'd get fcuked up big time. IMO. Pocket patterdales in the States don't care much for who's breeding and exporting them. I'll stick with what working dogs that are properly bred here. W 2 W Breeding.

:D sorry for the late response , was working !

Nelson , ok i´m german but i don´t really know something about frankenstein and Adolf but if you are right and the "Creator" of the Jagd´s was one of Adolfs mate´s why they are Black and Tan and not Blonde ???

 Questions over questions :victory: !

...and Spoof you know that it is illegal here to let the dog go with his Quarry full contact in the artifictuall den´s you mean ?

OK if we look at the last link you put in it looks like a normal hunting day , walk with the digging lad´s and the dog´s to the dens , start digging , ...but what´s with the last pic ?! They fixed the badger with the tang so he must be alive , for what reason is the leached dog that bite him ? In my opinion the dog learn nothing from that only to loose the little bit respect he has and to loose that it can be the end for him when he must go down ! that is only my opinion and here when we got our Quarry we dispatched it imediatly and humanly or release it when the dog´s are fixed ! Nothing wrong with the hunting pic´s , the problem are the pic´s were the dog had to draw or to fight in a small wooden artifictualls dens ! That´s also the difference here between our country´s ! in the German artifictuall den´s it is not allowed to let the dog go in full contact with the fox ( badger is also illegal in a artifictuall ) ! The dog must be also tested in the natural earth and than there is the full contact ( if the dog like to :D ) !

i agree with y mate, ps we have in June an international contest with full contact on fox, a lot of lads from Europe will come, its for all breeds of terrier except jgt., because it ll be made by club of terriers, jgt have their own club but in the same month there ll be another contest for all kind of breeds which re used for digging. it a good oportunity to meet other lads from europe see some dogs, speak with them, have some drinks.....
