I've gone to add to this post a number of times and just can't seem to get it right

Here we are looking at some c*nts to be fair and giving our opinions on them, not the dogs.

I might be wrong but i aint seen an old dog on the link, maybe they mellow with age or maybe they dont live that long, getting a pasting like they do.

No doubt at all these are very game animals, demonstrating just that and i've also no doubt there are such game dogs in these fair isles to equel them. Difference probably being we maybe like our, 'game' animals to live a bit longer and not run up large vets bills and attract attention to ourselves.

Interesting that we all seem to condemn the demonstrations of gameness, these scenes were no doubt played out in Britain no more than 50 years ago and the baiting of animals still continues in many Western 'civilisations'. :o

Do i approve of it myself ?, not really but then i aint gonna judge somebody else who wants to keep their dogs as game as possible either.

As we argue to those anti's who critcise us, no one is forcing them dogs to attack they're foe, its natural, its what they have been bred for and this is there acid test.As i said, not really my cup of tea but i think we should be careful to condemn, 'cos there are still plenty of people who would like to see OUR 'HUMANE' ways of hunting Banned. ;)

I didnt want to offend anyone putting this link.I only thought there are photos of a breed most of you dont know and it was interesting.I dont think there is something wrong in trials and artificial dens, untill last year we had full contact trials here in Italy too ,the were banned at the end of 2005,and I had taken part to a lot of them.It was good fun when the hunting season was closed to keep the terrier fit and to start young terriers.it was also a way to meet other terriermen and have a few words on dogs and hunting,I've made some good friends at trials. In summer of 2005 I was in Hungary for the Danubian cup,the biggest trial of all Europe and there were dozens of terriermen from 8 countries, and for me coming from a remote village on the hills of southern Tuscany it was really a beautyfull experience.

In the civilized France they still have contact trials.

hello,

i would also like to say a few things about the link and the pictures in it. i personally was disgusted by the pictures shown on the linked site, and i do not have anything against gameness of a dog!!!

what i do not like is unnaccesary suffering from animals that are not bred for gameness like our terriers, like these foxes that fight to survive etc that are shown with very bad injuries. i do not know how these trials are held, but for me the fotos show no respect at all for these creatures (and humanity), a respect that in my oppinion they deserve! the fotos can not convince anybody of the necessity of such "tests". a more harming publicity for earthdogs i can not imagine, since in my oppinion this has nothing to do with earthhunting!

test one dog for its gameness is ok ,but in a civilised way, and not showing proudly on a foto a fox with a gone jaw etc! and one other thing i can not understand. lets assume that the people who are participating or posting these pictures on the linked site do not see the cruelty in it...what should a "test" like this show anyway to the owners of the dogs about the quality of their dogs? for me this is not a test to the dogs gameness at all, since the dog is "working" only one inch away from its master, and of course, if he has anything in it, he is giving everything in order to fullfill what is asked him to do.

this "testing" does not come near to an real hunting situation at all ! a situation where the dog is on its own a few meters away from his owner under the ground, maybe for hours on its own, there he has to prove his gameness in my oppinion. a real situation were the dog has to dig himself free when the earth is to narrow, where he has to find and stay with its fox or anything else, no matter the injuries the dog got from the quarry . this is the trait of gameness in my oppinion that is needed in the working terrier (it is something else then the trait of gameness in the pit dogs for exampe where it is expressed in a different way. but many people seem to confuse the gameness of a pit dog and the gameness of a working terrier). this is what one is looking for, and not a dog that is crawling into a 5 or six meter tube, "finds" the quarry and begins grabbing and drawing it.

i saw two times dogs that competed in such "tests" ,in real hunting situation and they never showed more gameness..the contrary was the case since they were used of grabbig the quarry without many problems in a wooden den...they came out of the earth after 15 minutes since no one came to help them!

so in my oppinion the link should be taken off the forum by the administrator since the whole scene is presented in a very disgusting way and also the objectve need of such things can never be explained..since there is no objective use of it!!

sorry for my english spelling etc.

Well, in this present political climate this thread and the link will cause a lot of interest from people who are using and keep an eye on this site looking for ammunition to use against us.

Lets commend our selves for responding in the correct manner and showing our disgust at a barbaric abuse of wildlife.

Baiting is the unnatural end of the sport but many a good bloodline has come from such activity which used to be carried out in this country and I would imagine still does but, that is a reflection of society as a whole not the working dog world in general, there will always be a criminal element in society

If I lived in the part of the world from which this site originated from would I join in well YES if the quarry was found in its natural environment (Wow them boys like to dig no wonder they are coming over here and make good labourers) not some concrete pen with everybody from the local village cheering. The main attraction for me to working dogs is to get away from people and human life.

Simon

Thaks for sharing the site with us they are good looking dogs my friend but mixing it is only a small part of a true working dogs role. Supprised not to see the obligatory bull terrier that would be right up there street.
