secretagentmole 1,701
I still think that after a decent 11.7 ft lb slug in the guts, shoulder or balls it takes a stupid pillock to carry on! Under 10 yards range as well it should penetrate quite well! Look at what it does to bone and fur on a bunny head at 35 yards! But there again being someone who does not have the slightest intention of experimenting with outlawed pharmaceuticals or intruding uninvited into or onto someone else's property I can't say I understand what drives the fools. Mate, while I wouldn't want to face the barrel of one, it's important to remember that the limit on air rifles in this country has been set specifically to limit their effectiveness as a weapon. I imagine that it'd sting like a hornet, but I doubt it penetrate a thick puffa-jacket or coat, and even then it wouldn't incapacitate your assailant; probably just fuel their rage. It's important to remember that firearms aren't a pain-compliance weapon, they're designed for instant incapacitation and the very minimum force required for this was conjectured by the American army to be around 60 ft/lb. I have read reports where Police have shot suspects with .45 ACP and 9mm Parabellum Hollow-Point bullets (approximately 500 ft/lb ) only to have the suspect flee the scene. Oh and I think that it's important to note that while you may only be using an air rifle to defend yourself, in the eyes of the law it's a firearm and carries the same maximum penalties. Your jury might not even be able to differentiate between the two - it sounds silly to us, but I've encountered a lot of people who can't. Quote Link to post
Catcher 1 639
Anybody see the story in The Star about the burglar who rang the police to complain when he broke into someone's house in Hull armed with an iron bar that he got shot by an air rifle (by a Webley Stingray Carbine judging by the photo)? The judge was most unsympathetic... He suold have put a secomd one behind the pricks ear. Quote Link to post
