Anybody see the story in The Star about the burglar who rang the police to complain when he broke into someone's house in Hull armed with an iron bar that he got shot by an air rifle (by a Webley Stingray Carbine judging by the photo)? The judge was most unsympathetic...

The home owner who shot him is lucky not to be prosecuted!

 

As for him phoning the police to complain, serves him right and I hope they throw the book at him.

I saw it yeah, like has been said hes lucky not to have been bollocked big style, I guess you never know what goes through your head when you come across some scum in your home, he had a baby in the house aswell i think. Fair play to the lad

Looks like the guy was taking a swing at him with the bar, so I guess it came under "reasonable force".

 

Of course, he could have been done for failing to prevent an under 18 (his daughter) from having access to an air weapon!

 

He might get a bit more of a shock if he breaks in to mine, firstly the dog would take exception, and then I might be cleaning the shotgun or rifles. Reckon I'd get away with taking his head off with the shotgun, if I had it out to clean and was under threat?

I think that you cannot believe much you read in the Star, but this seems to be one of the more believable stories. I think he was let off as it was an air rifle and the bloke did have an iron bar so he was classed as having an offensive weapon!

Tony Martin only got done because he didn't shoot them until they were leaving. Had he shot them while still robbing him he would have been ok.
