B & F location on steep bankings

Recommended Posts

Read on a thread recently about back filling on steep bankings that to get a mark you need to work from a set height and to avoid going for the lowest reading as you will risk missing the tube.

Could anybody explain this more as i've not had to find a mark on a banking yet and have avoided them so far

Locate the rough area your dog is in.

Find the lowest mark on the dog. Lift the box up off the ground by about 1/2 a foot then move it into the banking.

You will find the reading differs depending on how far into the banking you are. If your getting your lowest mark in tigh to the soil again, keep stepping it up.

The aim is obviously to dig down on top of the dog and sometimes an a steep face the lowest mark is certainly not on top of the dog.

Its very hard to explain :icon_redface: but practice makes perfect. It involves a fair bit of judgement and common sense as well.

what youll find is on a steep banking youll get say a mark at 2mtr go lower down the banking and get one say at 1.2 trench in 90 deg and your bang on the dog if you were on something like this you'ed have to move the soil so best go lower and trench in sure it has something to do with the signal from the collar have got down to the terrier on flater places only to find the tube isnt below but of to the side of the dig

Cheers for the replies lads.

Iv always avoided these places becasue of not knowing how to get a mark on them. I always assume that steep banks mean DEEP digs?

Is findin the lowest mark and going in at 90 degrees a good idea? sounds like an easy way to cause a collapse or ruin an earth?
