full moon

Recommended Posts

it is a full moon tonight, and every time it is full moon, my dogs howl like f**ck, throughout this 24 hour period, daytime and nighttime and they will also be very restless, walking in and out of there kennels all day and night, on edge, and howling like wolves, every couple of hours, they have been like this since they were pups its not a problem, as the rest of the time they are really quiet and you dont know they are there , its just some primitive thing going on, anyone else notice this with there dogs ?? it only ever happens on a full moon during a 24 hour period, it doesnt matter if i had them out for a ten mile run behind the mountain bike, and fed them right up, shout at them lock them in, nothing stops them,

come tommorow they will be totally silent again for a month,

It's close to midnight ow an something evil's lurking in the dark Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it Y

it goes to show how little some of you lads know about dog behaviour, ime not asking why they do it, as its quite a common thing especially between old breeds of dogs like saluki,s huskys etc it stems from primitive hunting behaviour, which wild dogs wolves etc use to communicate whilst out hunting singularly or in packs to communicate, with each other especially on moonlit nights,

Yip....and i did google it and found out some stuff as you say. But i'm thinking your dogs are far from the wild wolves you talk about or the pack animals like huskies? I'm sure there will be hundreds of members coming on shortly to say they have the same problem.... :hmm:

yeah they are quite distant from wolves, but all dogs are descendent's of wolves, and salukis, being probably the oldest breed of dog or certainly one of the oldes breeds, 5000 years old, and can be traced back to 3000 bc are primitive wouldnt you agree,

try and give you a sencible answer pal .. if they see the moon big and bright in the night sky , its something unusualll for them ,, so they howl , daytime . /and night this may sound soft .. but it may have something to do with a change in gravitational pull ..as in the tides maybe dogs sence it .. probebly just writen aload of crap but i did try ..lol

Yes but human intervention over thousands of years takes away there wild instincts. I dont doubt you, just a bit weird they would do it consistantly...........dont know enough on the subject to have a decent debate i'm afraid. Maybe somebody will put some facts up soon.....be an interesting read....

due to recent advances in dna testing, it has been "proven" that the 14 most ancient breeds of dog we have in 2011 show very little genetic difference, to wolves, and certainly the "least" genetic difference from wolves, from all other breeds of canine we have globally in 2011
