Cameron Burns 1
Like so many other ferreters there can be no worse feeling than knowing there is a bury just packed with rabbits but for whatever reason are unable to reach it, the ground i ferret on constantly leaves me feeling stressed, the problem is the hillsides overlooking the crop fields are covered in patches of gorse that are twice as dense as regular gorse and cover an area the size a of a football pitch beneath the gorse is some of the most active buries on the land, ferreting it is out of the question as i cant see where all the exit holes are and if the ferret lays up 99 times out of 100 you aren't going to see it again, although i do manage a good day every time i go up i cant help but think that im being outsmarted by these rabbits, burning the gorse is definetly out of the question so thats out the picture, does anyone have any ideas of what to do? sleepy_saluki 5
gorse bushes are nightmare mate thats why bunnies hold up in them all the time they know you cant get to them Quote Link to post
The one 8,457
Easiest option snare there runs Longnets and bells on the ferrets collars start and finish early if you can Best option drop a match in the gorse patches Quote Link to post
proper22 5
Ive got the same problem on the moors were i live mate really dense gorse with rabbit runs in but you cant get to the holes....ive not thougt of a way round it myself yet, i geuss the rabbits in it are lucky feckers. .. Burning it or getting a mate with a tractor to cut it down are the only two options but if it aint your land then there's no way around it.. if its like whats down my way you'd be there strimming all day.... which aint no good ATB Ben Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
Once the gorse has been destroyed the rabbits and all other wild life that use its cover dissapear for good. Change tactics Lamp, snare,or longnet at night if conditions are right They got to be feeding somwhere Edited February 18, 2011 by Mick C. Quote Link to post
