Recommended Posts

Yer well lads like to see some of the things you have won ? Or is everyone all talk, seems alot of people here are eager to put others down yet have little to show for themselves.

Regardless I have seen evidence and know that not only was this dog good in shows and races but was regulary worked out in the field and caught plenty of game :toast:

Dont see why some people trying to belittle the dog anyways ? Was just curious about a dog of my mates :feck:

What evidence?.....you stated in your first post you've just taken an interest in lurchers.Seen the dog run first hand did you?

Photos of the dog with game it caught aswell as trophies it won. Also other people I know who have seen it run.

What have you won with your dog mate ? oh ai, feck all :whistling:

And the owner could have enough rosettes to wallpaper his living room, that makes it a pretty dog not necessarily a good one.

In all fairness lad you're only 20 racing and showing mean nothing imo..........a working dog earns its acolades in the feilds. And as for what my dog as won.........plenty of praise for doing what she was bred for....working

Well fair play to you John mate. Im not looking to start any my dogs better than yours arguements, were all grown ups :p

I was just merely interested in a dog that belongs to a friend of mine. I know he ran the dog in the field and he got his fair share of game, he also ran him in races and put him in shows from what I hear.

Best of luck to you all. :toast: You probally have forgot more about lurchers than I know. Hopefully though atleast I can learn some on my way, only just got interested in it and dont see me getting one for a while anyways. Hope they lift the bloody ban though, gutted if I missed out on all the good stuff

No problem young fella we all have to start somewhere  A lot of good dogs will never see a show ring or a sprint strip........your mates dog was more known for its racing and showing not its working ability, thats all I was trying to get across

No worries mate, just some people seem to think that just because he won races and such means he was useless in the field calling him a "show pony"

if a dog is fast on a track then its going to be fast in the field surely  Speed is speed at the end of the day

Yes your right speed is speed.........but what seperates a lot of dogs is knowing how to use that speed.Fieldcraft and knowing when to put the burners on is a big factor in a dogs sucsess in the field........I've seen a few dogs that will blow my bitch away when it comes to out and out speed but their catch rate is not as good.A fast dog will always be able to run fast in a straight line but quarry dosen't run in straight lines.

i know dixies owner real nice bloke also know the old guy he bought him off real gent and dixie is was one real smart lurcher who won loads showing and racing . but as i said legends in the lurcher world are made in the feild not the summer shows and yes he did win a greyhound race at bedwellty and no one can take that from him .but gotta say it was bottom heat scrubbing race where a lot of lurchers could win and the greyhounds are the lowest of the low and poor examples of their breed.and believe me that dog didnt see enough game to call it a working dog but not knocking it for that it was a supreme example of a good looking lurcher ownned by a real gent. .
