shooter-jimmy 0 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Share Posted February 16, 2011 I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice... i was out ferreting last weekend with the shotgun and the ferret does not chase anything out the warren, he goes down and just eats the rabbit , how much should i feed him before going out and when should he get fed ?? cheers jimmy. JoeD 24 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Share Posted February 16, 2011 Well mine have dry food in 24/7 so they can pick at it when they like, and meat whenever I have any. you can't stop a ferret laying up. But expect a lot more of it due to rabbits being pregant, as they are more reluctant to bolt. Joe Quote Link to post

Have you dug down to him and found partly eaten rabbits? no bud, he is coming out with lots of rabbit fur on his claws and blood all over his face Sounds like he's doing what he's supposed to. The rabbits aren't bolting so the ferret is working them, scratching away at them untill he gets into a position to deliver that fatal bite, hence the reason he's coming out with fur on his claws and blood on his face. You've got to remember the ferret doesn't go down the bury with the intention of bolting the rabbits out [that's what we want them to do], his intention is to catch the rabbits in the bury and that's what's happening here. If he was underfed he'd probably feed on his kill then lay up, as he doesn't seem to be doing this I'd say you don't have issues with his feeding. Quote Link to post
