cocker 2,654
all the barf you could ever want is in tesco,s if you know what to look for, i can feed my dogs on "human grade food" (barf) from there cheaply and easily, ie chicken wings, chicken thighs, cheap beef mince ,cheap oily fish, greens, rice, pasta, cheese, cod liver oil, get the cheap brown bread and then bake it, mixed with a bit of dog meal/mixer, throw in rabbits etc.

Also don't forget to check the frozen section in tesco as it usually has nice cheap gritty mince full of bone and everything.
Mooch. 177
Gilpa Valu Mix. Dog's fit strong and healthy with a coat so shiny you can almost see your face in it! It's only £12 for 15kg and it lasts me nearly a month. Edited February 17, 2011 by Mooch.
Gaz_1989 9,539
Agree with the tesco advice. Think cheaper is better in supermarkets. The bags of frozen mince are about 2 quid. Very fatty. Same with the fresh value minces. Beef and lamb. Tesco value chicken wings are cheap as chips and belly pork slices are about a quid for 2 meals worth. On top of this I get bags of mixed fat and offal for 25p a bag from butchers and same guy gives me racks of lamb for 15p. Gaz

Country Joe 1,411
If you do want to go down the complete route, I would look at the feed for Greyhounds, The two that are currently getting good reports are Australian, and Gains.
sandymere 8,263
Got mine on raw these days but Orijen is good if you can get it. Iv got a new lurcher that could do with a few pounds puttin on what would you guys suggest tripe or raw mince just wana pack abit on him before getting him fit thanks It’s all about calories in and calories out, if you feed more calories than the dog burns it will put weight on, Fat has around twice the calories pound for pound as protein or carbs so up the fat a little and get a big result. Increasing protein will only produce muscle to suit the work, ie eating two steaks a day won’t turn you into Mr. Universe but working out and eating a balanced diet might. So I’d add in a little more in the way of fat, ie waste suit from butchers or a table spoon of lard/ vegetable oil or a little more fatty meat such as lamb waste from the butchers, this will be burned as fuel and allow the protein you feed to be utilized for repair/growth of lean tissue. The extra calories will be used to fill out a little, if the body has already got what muscle its work entails it will put on a little fat if it hasn’t it will put on a little muscle. Protein isn’t a very good fuel so extra beyond the bodies needs isn’t to helpful if over fed. As to completes I use them, around 22% protein, but add butchers waste meat, rabbits etc along with table scraps. A good alterantive is, as Cocker suggest, make it up yourself with a sensible mixture of protien, fat and carbs to suit the dogs needs. to
Country Joe 1,411
You appear to have Owners who only feed BARF and nothing else, and vice versa, some only feed complete, I know owners who feed, a complete in the morning, and Raw at night, but also boil up Chicken and Veg, and once a week Sardines or similar, which is what I would do I know they are not Human but whose to say they don't appreciate a bit of variety. I am now feeding both, I am just getting started so will be adjusting the amounts as appropriate once I see how the dogs (a lurcher and a whippet, both two years) do on it, but I am feeding tripe and mince with a little mixer for one meal, and then Wagg worker for the other (my dogs get fed twice a day). I have always believed that dogs should have the same daily basic diet, but that they enjoy change as much as the rest of us so they get extras added to the Wagg (sardines in tomato sauce, raw eggs, veggies etc). They get raw bones but only outside! I have some raw ox cheek to try as well, which I am told they get a good chew on. If anyone needs a raw food supplier in Scotland: http://www.rawdogfeeders.co.uk
latchy 21
i use snedeys wonderdog and its quality dry food with meat in it ,its also got codliver oil in the biscuit 15kg bag for £10 ,plus barf ,cost me about £18 /£20 every 2 weeks ,so car,nt go wrong and my dogs are top condition I've been using Sneyds Wonderdog for years and even with one dog being a picky eater they've never wanted for anything else. I could be wrong but it may be packaged under other names because I used to get it as a 'Working Dog' feed years ago and a friend who works in a pet shop had a look at it and said he could get the same stuff but cheaper. When it came it was Sneyds; different bag, same stuff! Never bothered mixing anything in unless one dog was getting more graft then I just added a bit of mince and/or cheap pasta (remember when everyone was price matching/slashing 'Nice Price' and it was pennies per bag from ASDA ). As mine has got older, I've started mixing with 30%-50% BETA Senior but crickey it's expensive when you are used to Wonderdog! their 2 types of sneds were i get mine from 1 with codliveroil and meat and 1 with none ,both the same price and both working feed all syndes(gold and special) has cod liver oil in difference is the special has a tad more plus chroition(think thats how it spelt)in aswell
