Tyla 3,179
I had to go and meet a supplier near my old place this morning but knew it wouldnt take all day so took a couple of ferrets, Parker and Willow, the 5 month old puppy, along. Meeting was done by 11 but it was pissing down. Hung around for a bit until it eased off about 2 then went for a wander round some woods with a few small buries in. Didnt bother with any nets as they've only just dried from the other day and i wanted the pup to watch Parkers on bolters. There were a few rabbits above ground which Parker ran to earth and then were bolted by the ferrets. We bolted about 4 from different buries and he caught one, considering how thick the woods were i was happy with that. It was a perfect run and retrieve to hand in front of the pup who was watching on the lead. Its her third time out and shes starting to pay attention when ferrets are to ground and to watch Parkers body language as he waits for a bolt. It started raining again so we started back. I got Willow retrieving the dead rabbit on the way back, which shes never tried before, and got her to walk to heel carrying it part of the way. Also did some sit and stay work, i can put her in a sit now and walk away 70 odd yards and walk a complete circle round her without her moving. She does it brilliantly in the open but she doesnt like to lose sight of me yet. I was very pleased with her today! Then came the shitty twist, as we were coming to the edge of the wood i threw the rabbit for her one last time which flushed a live one. She didnt see it and brought the dead one back but Parker did and was straight on it. He missed it amongst the trees but looked sore coming back. When i checked him over he had a 3 inch skin tear on his inner thigh, bugger! It wasnt too bad, nice and clean but he'll be off for a couple weeks nonetheless. Its a shame really as otherwise it was a nice hour out, but its always risky running in woods. I had some lamping planned for him over the weekend but, unless my bitch is sound by then, thats a non starter now. No pics as i was concerntrating on the puppy most of the time and Parker at the end. Quote Link to post

Sure he'll heal up quick, he always does, its just bad timing with so little of the season left. Tyla was fit and going well but then tore her nail bed, thats nearly fixed but not quite yet so im back to no running dogs again! Its my dream to start and finish a season without any lay offs, should think your the same!!! Cant see it happening though, if they're out alot they are always going to get the odd knock.
