Sweet Chestnut

My nieghbour is having their sweet chestnut tree trimmed and some sizable branches/ logs are comming off.

Already saved a great Y section for a catapult! (43yrs old and still got my priorities right!)

Good fire wood?

Good for anything else?

Bad firewood, it spits. Usuable if you have a wood burning stove and keep the door shut but defiantly not good on an open fire.

Pear logs and apple logs,

They will scent your room,

Cherry logs across the dogs,

Smell like flowers in bloom

 

But ash logs, all smooth and grey,

Burn them green or old;

Buy up all that come your way,

They're worth their weight in gold.

Excellent fire wood, but not for an open fire.

Chesnut also used for fence posts in the round or split.
