aaronpigeonplucker 32
hi all, well to cut a long story short, we got nothing. i arrived at 4:30 to have a look around the allotments with the chairman. i found numerous piles of dug up turnips and parsnips, and leeks with their tops nibbled off, with 2 main runs coming from under a bath wehre they were entering the allotment. Brad arrived and i showed him where we thought the rabbits were coming in. we camped up, me to the left of the bath and brad to the right of it. i had built a set of shooting stick the perfect height for sitting shots which worked well. they were just garden canes with inner tubing wrapped round the top for grip and they're very stable! the crows were cawing everywhere and i made a mental note to bring a hawk decoy next time as the light began to fade i was thinking "any minute now a rabbits gunna come out from under that bath" well the light did fade until you could no longer see in the darker corners and i did a sweep from the nearest point to me to the bath with nothing. about five mintues later, i saw brads light sweep outwards from the bath. we kept doing sweeps every 5-10 min and carried on like this for an hour not seeing anything, even though there were runs, and evedince all over the place. the allotment has a rabbit proof fence round it and i looked all around and the only point i could find coming in was under this bath. after a while i texted brad to meet up in the middle where we watched the bath chatting (i sharpened his knife as well) adn when we had given up all hope i set up 2 targets 15yrds away and we had a few shots. my dad came to pick us up and we played 'who can get the msot weird look' as we walked through Costa in full camo! Ron Weasley 83
A bad nights shooting beats a good night doing most other things in my book mate. Hopefully you enjoyed being out with some good company! Quote Link to post
lampingboy 284
even though nothing in the bag it was still a productive night ,sharpened my knife haha had a little chat about guns etc.which probably didnt help lol anyways i think if we setup a different vantage point possibly from the same position but behind some decent cover. As your dad was saying,i think getting on top of that container would be a perfect VP if only it was 10yards closer is i would say its a decent 50m to the run entrance. Also did you get hold of mr.beeman after? hopefully we can get some permission on that farm next door as i think we will have alot more luck shooting from that side! There were plenty of crows and magpies around though, could have picked atleast 5 of them off before dark i think, anychance of us getting permission on them ? thanks for sharing the permission Brad.
