rossi_j 99
Now I see a lot of guys asking about weather or not washing / lubing pellets is beneficial, after doing mine I can say it is, or it seems to be anyway. Would be nice if I could get answers to these two questions from guys who have put the time into testing with and without washing / lube. A. What was your chrono results before and after, or just how mutch it increased by? And B. What sieze were your groupings before and after? (please state range) Iv got the washing and lubing pellets sorted now, just intrested in results really or anything anyone has to say in terms of consistency and accuracy. .atb. .ste. I know what you guys are thinking "why havent you done it yourself" And the short answer is, I will at first opertunity Edited February 13, 2011 by rossi_j Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Only worth doing , if you do it right . I generally give em a light swill , with a drop of washing up luqid in warm water . After a few swirl`s a rinse with warm water , pat em dry and leave em overnight to dry on a clean tea towel . Next day , i place em in a plastic bag ( the snap top thingy`s ) with a few drops of lube in the bag . Placed on a table top i give em a gentle roll about untill they are all covered an a coating of lube . I empty these , again onto a tea towel to dry off over night and place em back in a cleaned tin . I have noticed an improvement , give it a try Ste , you might like it Bust Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
I've been washing and lubing pellets with WD40 before I bought all the rifles I now have, and every tin I buy is so prepared so, I do not have comparison test data to offer here. However, the level of reliable, consistent accuracy I get from my rifles tells me everything is running as it should. If anything, it is the odd inconsistent pellet I get in H&N Field Target Trophy .22 that causes the only deviations I get with all my Weihrauch spring rifles. Otherwise, they perform beautifully well. With my Air Arms TX200HC .177 and TX200 rifle with washed/lubed Air Arms field ammo, it's the same story. I can tell you my new HW77 was running at 11.3 ft/lbs with H&N Field Target Trophy .22 at the shop on the day I bought it. With washed/lubed H&N FTTs it's running 11.8 ft/lbs and doesn't miss a beat,,,or whatever target I point it at. Washing and lubing works superbly as far as I'm concerned. ATB Simon Quote Link to post

rossi_j 99
Thanks for all the comments guys, Bust, I have started using the wash technique sated above witch you gave me on another post I lube very lightly by rolling my pellets around on a rag with the smallest amount of abbey gun and rifle on it, as pianoman says ensuring not a whiff up the skirt (made me giggle when I said that), only exterior surfaces get the lightest of coatings and have noticed improvement in my accuracy I just havent had chance to gauge by how mutch tho. Simon, thanks, so we are looking at a power increase of around half a ft/lb, roughly. Ron, I hope it wasnt too hot! Woodchip, a lot of people are of the same opinion it seems Anyone have any direct comparison? E.g a string over a chrono with, out of the tin pellets and a string with washed&lubed pellets to see if consistancy in fps is improved? .atb. .ste. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Ste. Yep, I found about a half of one foot pound's energy gain and it holds it consistently. Obviously, if it takes the rifle over the limit, you can't use it. But then you shouldn't need it at that level anyway. In truth, it is more of an aid to accuracy by better consistency in your rifle's barrel than by any means of real kinetic power-gain. It seems reasonable, at least, that a clean, rifled barrel; firing clean, smooth-coated ammo will perform better and last longer, than a dirty one with lead swarfe and dust compacted into the lands.
