stroller 341
My season is done ive had enough, Out today with my little bitch ferreting she did really well marking extremely well and covering well i noticed a slight limp but didnt think much of it as we were ferreting holly hedges and the dogs pick up bits which usually drop off as the morning wore on she missed a sitter and stopped running a couple oif times on closer inspection she has took a lump off her chest and has cut her leg again. it has pulled together ok and has cleaned up well. but i am heartily sick of this happening she isnt 2 yet and she has had six wounds from barbed wire two of which needed considerable stitching. if anyone follows my posts they will know we nearly lost my sons big dog a month ago when he almost sheathed his leg. and for those who so kindly commented at the time jet is bouncing about happily enough the leg is an ugly affair though and we wont know for a while yet what stresses and strains it will take but even if he cant work my lad will keep him as apet. It isnt the fact that its new barbed wire on the top of fences thats causing the problem its the old odd strand in a hedge or old rolls in long grass or the end of a strand left sticking out of a post. its just sloppy workmanship, pisses me off but what can we do i can hardly complain to the farmer!!!! danw 1,748
If its on permission could you not offer to tidy some of it up in the off season I know it's not your fault it's there but it might save some vets bills Quote Link to post

Don't give up mate , i was like you after her last big one , she'ed ran in to stock fencing and split right up her leg and i was going to smash my lamp , but its hunting lad! wash her cuts out 4 times a day with warm salty water try some honey on a night time! worked for me after the last time, had her back running in two week! jacksbignose 8
Never nice to hear of animals getting hurt when they are grafting for us. I regularly just walk the land in the daytime where I have permission and sort out stuff that could harm my dogs; I shift old posts (or worse new posts left with pointed ends sticking up just about the height to impale a dog on the lamp), big rocks turned up in plough (keen dogs with bloody noses or dislodged teeth from striking a rock rabbit). During the Summer I mooch around and take a pair of snips so that I can tidy old/snapped wire. Pays dividends for me and the farmer is always pleased to see me especially when I can report he's got early problems with fences etc. I even took a mate and repaired a busted gate... guaranteed lifetime permission! Even if it just makes you feel a bit better about the whole thing Stroller. Accidents are a hunting dogmans 'enevetable curse', sooner or later sommats gonna happen and its a sickener when it does. By christ I've had my share of late!! If you've had enough for the time being, thats fair enough, I know i sure felt like that, but take time and take stock over the coming months. Accidents seem to happen in bunches but when theres a break of 'em and the work is good, it put all things into the right perspective again..! Best of luck with your dogs mate. Quote Link to post
scalesntails 118
One of mine ripped his leg open last night. Given it a clean and glued it so should be ok. Always feel really guilty when I see one of them injured. My permission is pretty much all rock etc. I need to get walking around and find some more permission on nicer land. Quote Link to post
