IanB 0
How many members use landies for their hunting...I'm looking at a county spec hard top at the minute, previously had mitsubishi, toyotas, I'm fancying a change going for the TD5. A mate I know has one its done 65,000 trouble free mile, not too sure what they compare like with the 200/300 tdi engines..
david2363 42
Ian - after the Mitsu and the Toyota, I think you might find the Defender a tad crude. A collegue of mine just swapped his Showgun for one back in November and tells me he regrets it. Its obviously bombproof and a capable off roader, but its nice to have a degree of comfort too. That said, I'm sure you will look every inch the country gent in your new Landy.
Guest JOEB
This is not exactly what you had in mind mate ...........but a word of warning, they are a bit addictive, there is nothing to love about them, but you find yourself loving them all the same. Off road..........second to none IMHO........just ask P&G I give you............The Messermobile!......in all its glory J
lucky 578
joeb i think there a little bit more comfy these days
mussells 0
mines fantastic but dont expect comfort the heaters are rubbish, but you will get to love it. mines a 300tdi i opted for that because theres more to go wrong on a td5, more expense when it does. Guest Macnas
Good mate of mine had a county, a real go-anywhere vehicle. But if you had to travel any long distances in it, you got out feeling like you'd been beaten up.
Wilky 0
My mate drives an old Landie, he says it's not a 4x4 it's 40x40x40, it'll do 40 miles to the gallon at 40 miles an hour for a maximum of 40 miles, because it's that uncomfortable you can't drive it any further, I've used it and if you drive over a pebble, it's like being kicked up the arse with a clog. Oh and he lies about the economy, it's crap on fuel. Japs for me I'm afraid.
IanB 0
Just got one, I can see why people either hate them or love them....got told the heaters where stone cold in most landies, this ones heaters are red hot, and its no where near as bad as I expected on the motorway...85mph, starts guzzling though at that speed... mole trapper 1,693
second what joe b said, i had a lwb 300tdi, drove it down to north africa first week we had it, best motor ever off road, did a hundred and seventy thousand miles in six years, decided to px against nevara for comfort and looks. REALLY wish i had kept the landy.
IanB 0
I had a new shape hilux vigo style mole trapper, it was economical 34mpg? Legendary reliability, bags of space....but there not truely that practical for getting clarted up with mud..especially with cream carpets and leather, the length was a hinderance sometimes too....one day may have another one, I bought an import but if I was to get another pickup, I'd choose the british model, new version due out this year with the 3.0 D4D landcruiser engine thats in the imports...IMO the build quality is just that much better than other pickups...for now though its playtime with the landie though if I get any major bother, I'll end up back with the jap stuff
gelert 1
landies are cheap to repair compared to jap stuff
