Col_c88 41
hey guys, as some of you know i got my first ferrets on tuesday, well when i took them out i know they were fighting in the box which i figured was just 'cos they were stuck together all day (got a new lighter, box with compartments in it today).. however ive just gone into the shed to handle them and the smaller of the two has all his fur flattened as if wet around his ear and his ear looks like its been chewed a little bit.. ive split them up until this question gets answered for now as i have not yet got the two hutches conected. they are both 7 month old Hobs, there are no jills yet its just them two, is this just like a dog shows who is the boss or is the big one just being a bully kind of thing? only problem i have at the moment is i only have 1 water bottle so i need to knwo if i should keep them split up a while so i can get a second water bottle.... also if they have to be split up for the time being.. will they be ok in the field together? when/what should i do.. when it comes to putting them back together edit: oh yea, also i know its coming up to breeding season for them, but like i say its just them two, no jills currently for them to scrap over, dunno if that makes much difference like thanks Edited February 11, 2011 by Col_c88 Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
To be honest its all part & parcel of hobs starting to come into season .. i think your best keeping them separate as the problem wont solve its self for at least 6 months ... at worst you could find a dead ferret if it escalates to full on fighting ... its very normal behavior for hobs just starting to come into season Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
its the time of year when two hobs are together one becomes the boss ie.. try and mount the other it will grab the back of the neck and drag the other round same as it would a female mainly to bed for a shag so one of thems got to be the bitch if you get me and will get it of the other gay style ,until one backs down they will keep fighting seperate for best results Edited February 11, 2011 by kevin from bristol Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
will they be ok working together at least? thanks by the way! Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
well you could try and see ,but the season for ferreting will be over in the not to distant future there will be lots of young around soon and that means headache ferreting and game over Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
one of my farms is VERY random and the top half of it has young but the bottom half doesnt, ive been shooting there for a fair while now and ive noticed different parts of the farm is overrun by rabbits at different times of the year.... seasons are all messed up man, used to be a time when you could guarantee young rabbits at x time of the year but on said farm, in the winter theres more young at the bottom and about now there all up the top so im pretty good to go. now i need a second fair sized hutch so i can connect the 2 hutches i already have together and keep them seperated >< Quote Link to post

ace32 4
yep its time to buy another water bottle, better buy a couple they only coppers and handy to have a spare, your hobs are comeing into season,so if you dont get em snipped, seperate em,save you a lot of greif, and the smaller one,s arse,,get a spare bottle to take with you when ferreting,so they can have a drink,ok,ian Quote Link to post
dave1600d 35
if you cant afford the 2.99p or so for the bottle yet mate,,get a heavy bowl to put the other ones water in mate,,,one that cant be turned over,,or a brick with a hollow in it ,,that should be a temp solution atb..dave Quote Link to post
