ferert update

Recommended Posts

well after takin the ferrets out for the first time yesterday i relised they do need a little more time to get used to me, putting the collar on them was a disaster, so ive had a little time the odd parts of today to go in and let them have a good smell and climb on me, the smaller of the 2 seems to just want to cuddle or something, every time he has nuzzled into my arm or lay on his back, is this normal for a working ferret or is he too soft (lol).. the bigger one is fairly boisturus (sp?) and just wants to climb on me.. good news tho, they havnt bit me once and have actually just licked me (the bigger one seemed to want to clean my wounds on my hand lol (dont worry i washed my hand afterwards))

im picking up my new lighter carry box tomorrow, along with 10 more nets, so that will be 27 nets i think, and i orderd a second collar for £56 this morning so should be here no later than next monday (i hope).. im taking them out to the farm on saturday, then with my mates ferrets on tuesday or wednesday.. the same guy who is going to breed me his 2 and give me 2 jills..

also, i just remembered the guy accross the road from my parents used to keep ferrets as pets but the usual happened and his kids got bored, but im sure he still has a big run for them so im gonna ask him if he does and see if he will buy it, extend it onto the shed then they have a pretty big play area.. thats if he still has it.

anyways thats the update on my first set of ferrets... just wanna thank you all again for the info you have provided me with, they seem happy cos of it!

hi mate if they havnt bit you then they should be ok. Dont worry about the collar mate, i have the exact same trouble. I guess you wouldnt like something been put around your neck eith so i guess it expected to be a pain. I have a mate that goes with me now and it is so much easier if there are two people believe me lol.

Keep us posted on them :)

one of my working jills is very playful but works fine, putting on collars is awkward and an extra pair of hands to hold the ferret will defo help!the more you go and questions you ask the better your experiences will be in terms of enjoying being out with your ferrets and catches, read as much as poss(books and internet)and ask questions wherever poss(on here and your parents neighbour for eg)and you should get on fine...

Aye they soon relize that putting the collars on means fun and the stay still to get them on .Practice putting them on and putting them in the hutch with them on for half a hour till your quicker at collaring them up mate

when mine are young when giving them a drink of milk or beaten egg/milk put the collar on then let them run around with it on then take it off. after a few times they accept it with no bother. when old enough to take out ferreting they are so used to it you wont have any problems.
