lksopener 105
Hi lads, Got a couple of silver hobs about 7 months old now (last years kits) they have lived together all the time but the last couple of days the little one has got a really scabby area on the back of his neck and I have seen the bigger one biting him on the neck. I have split them up for now but the little one is going bonkers being in on his own? I was thinking of letting him get healed properly and then putting back in? I have been just cleaning the wound with a cloth with saltwater on. Anything else to do? Thanks Liam Quote Link to post

Jamie m 668
Yep keep them split a good thing is to let them have a good run round the garden on there own to keep them happy whilst there on there own Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
If you plan to keep them both, think about getting them castrated. Do you have any more ferrets ? Quote Link to post

Rake aboot 4,936
5 ferrets is quite a few, why are you planning to breed more ? If your asking these types of questions I would guess that you are new to ferrets in which case learn how to look after the ones you have before breeding lots more If you plan to keep them all you have to think about how to bring the jills out of season,, do you know how to do that ?? Given that you have 3 hobs, you will need to think about what to do to stop them having a go at each other,, bearing in mind that one of them will need his balls to bring your jills out of season. Have a think about what your plans are and then ask on here for advise,, but your quite late oin asking given that you`ve went straight out and got 5 ferrets mate !! ATB Quote Link to post
lksopener 105
No I have had ferrets plenty of time! The hobs have lived together happily for months and months so I just wondered why one had a go at the little silver just recently. Last year i didn't breed the jills, got the Jill jab which did the trick. I am wanting a litter of kits off my poley Jill, well another one and other friends who work them have called dibs on the rest. Liam Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
Just read your other post, made while I was typing up the last one Fair enough. My advise for you would be as follows Stick with the 5 you have just now and forget breeding altogether just now bud ! Get 2 of the hobs castrated and get the third one a Vascectomy, (this will cost you but beleive me it`s the way forward here) When the Jills come into season put the vascectomised hob in with them and he will knock them out of season. this way. your hobs can live in peace until the breeding season ,then the one with his nuts can get moved out for a shagfest holiday with the jills. Job done! Quote Link to post
2bob 9
when they all come into season properly your going to need five cages to separate them properly.. or your other option is to get the hobs castrated an yer jills spayed Quote Link to post

In this case you know what the script is , the reason he`s having a go is cause he want his hole!! My last advise still stands though,,, Vascectomy is the way !! Quote Link to post
