ive got loads of the tree rats in my yard eating all the bird seed so its time the go. cant use the air riffle as next door is a funny c*nt and will call the old bill. dont want to bye one as it is not something i would use again so dose anyone know how to make a good live trap.

A tree-branch snare will catch squirrels every time, but you'll need to check them frequently if you plan on taking them alive. Back in the day, I made my squirrel tree snares with a foot-long section of very light snare wire, fashioned into a snare loop on BOTH ends. Loop the snare around the branch those critters run along, pass one snare loop through the other one, and pull tight to secure it to the branch. Your catch loop needs to be about an inch and a half in diameter, with a quarter inch gap between the lower curve of the loop and the branch surface.

 

If, after fastening the snare to the branch, the remaining wire is still too long to fashion that size of a loop, simply wrap the snare around the branch a second or third time to reduce the legnth of wire for a smaller catch loop. Check 'em often to prevent hysterics from your next-door neigbors, just in case they are of the sort to get that way over trapping old bushy tail.
