My new scope-cam setup

Recommended Posts

hey all

i wanted to start doing a bit of scope-camming after seeing other videos and setups.

so first i got a hold of a second hand sony handycam sr33 with the night shot feature to try out NV.

then got a 40mm pushfit pipe adapter (b&q) to fit the eyepiece of my scope suggly :D

on the other side of the adapter i got a 30mm to 49mm step up adapter (30mm to screw into camcorder and 49mm to fit over the end of the white plactic adapter)

it was a tight fit onto the pipe but holds beautifully

then put sum black tape around the pipe and step up adater to give it a bit more hold and also make it look a bit better.

hi buddy

i hope you have long arms and good close eye sight, because you are going to need it.

turn the stabilizing function to off,and turn the mag down to 3 or 4 which ever scope spec you have

i think you have it to far from the ocular eye piece my self! its going to be difficult for you to take some prone shots ,finger on trigger and focus on what quarry you are about to shoot.

please do some target practice first in all positions prone, sitting, standing, kneeling.

and see how you get on with it,good luck and let us know how you get on

regards

Hi Scott,

It looks fine mate and should work well.

I personally have my camera closer to my scope though as Davy as alluded to already.

For mag I use x4 for best picture quality, but if you have x3 then use x 3.

You will need a good IR lamp now mate or your range will be greatly reduced. The brightest white lamp you can fit to your rifle with a IR plastic filter over the front of it is a good idea.

With a Deben Tracer Max Pro I get around 50 metres of good usable light with my Handycam and scope camera.

If you manage to get some good footage once you have practiced with it thoroughly you will be able to send it to me and I’ll add it to my DVD under the clips from friends section.

I need more clips from other people, so if anyone has any good shooting footage please get in contact with me and I’ll get it in the new DVD.

Steve (Hunter) can you send me that footage of you using that Air Wolf with scope camera set up that you promised me please mate? You said you would get it 2 weeks ago but I haven’t received it yet pal.

Cheers

Si.

Nice work buddy, spa for effort and write up, hope to see some good footage pal

These two guys davy and si have put the hours in on paper and quarry and make it look easy, im sure you will find out soon it is very hard, practace is the key word

Lots of paperwork (of the target kind) and some fine tuning of your set up and adjustment of your shooting style and you will do fine im sure.

I recon its got to be like teaching yourself to shoot again from scratch tho, good luck buddy

Well said Ste pal.

Its a hard thing to master and its like teaching yourself a new shooting position.

At night time its even harder looking into a LCD in total darkness, talk about tunnel vision.

Im sure with practice though Scott will master it ok.
