matt_hooks 188
The one, in England licences to take deer at night are issued by Natural England, for the reasons stated in the Deer Act 1991, as amended by the Deer(Regulatory Reform Order) 2007. The allowed reasons are "to prevent deterioration of the natural heritage, to preserve public health and safety or to prevent serious damage to property." The licence will cover named individuals, and will have a maximum number of individuals named, normally four. In Scotland, the DCS (Deer commission for Scotland) are the relevant authority. Last time I checked they were in the process of merging with SNH (Scottish Natural Heritage) so they may be the competent authority now. You have to prove that damage has occurred in the past year, and the licence will be issued as a last resort only, when other means (fencing, daytime stalking) are proven to be ineffective. jelly4_ 0
I believe its legal to take a wounded deer if you come across one whilst out lamping tho? Quote Link to post
peeps_76 17
as above! we get a night shooting license every year for the last four years. we have to get the deer commission (nearly defunct now) to come check out our land and issue and as stated have named individuals on the license. you cant shoot from a vehicle. it is also possible to get an "out of season license" and a "follow on" license. they permit the shooting of ANY deer within the time scale of the license and to "follow" deer onto your neigbours land up to 1 mile to shoot. they are rare and in exeptional circumstances! if you get a copy of the deer commision annual report you can see how many of each kind of license are issued and the returns for each. kind regards Peter Quote Link to post
