stop nets

just wanted too know what are stop nets as i have never used them before i only use long nets and purse nets

I don't really know if this is the correct way of using them but I put 2 long nets either side of the the hedge (lets say 100yards) and then I put my stop nets at 25 yard intervals inbetween the long net's to stop rabbits running down the hedge and into hole's further down. I don't know if this is the proper way but it works for me.

yeah you use them with long nets to stop rabbit re entering the hedge further down bacially you have them coming strainght out from the hedge untill it meet the longnet which goes around the burie if this makes sense mate

Found them really useful for the thick hedges that we have here where the hedge bottom is like a ditch that the rabbits run along without breaking cover. Currently use a couple of 10 foot stop nets with two hazel poles and a couple of pegs to keep them upright and the top line taut with the bottom one slack following the contours of the bottom of the hedge. Also angle them and place the slack so that fleeing rabbits will run over the slack before hitting the net. One idea that we are going to try as there is only two of us is to put a couple of small bells on the top line to register a strike (bit like sea-fishing) because some of our buries are very long and its hard to watch everywhere at once and often rabbits quietly run out unnoticed. You can use them anywhere handy for breaking up a area and in use with longnets on a couple of poles ,but i also use them hanging on a run etc hanging them on nettle stalks and they still ball up a rabbit
