Leeview 791
lived on the fen now 18yrs, several years ago between nov/march the farmer/keeeper always put up trip wires in some plough fields but mainly wheatfields though, obvoius to prevent peeps hare coursing an stop peeps walkin there fields. but i havent seen any tripwires for along time now. just wondered if any lads/lasses come across signs/wires or even had dogs injured becaue of this in the fields. cheers What did the signs say exactly? they were nt put up by farmers/keepers they were put up by the Calendar coursing club on their permission to keep others from poaching their permission. All along the A47 Peterborogh through to Wisbech both sides of the road and as gonzalez mentions slightly further north on the fens Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I can imagine the damage a taunt wire would do to a longdog, never heard of it before now, but doesn't surprise me. Keepers / land owners were able to get away with horrendous traps / devices all in the name of "Protecting game", which in the case of hares, whatever the law says, are no mans property, they are wild game. Going further back in time but still on the subject, don't know if you guys have heard about the trip wire guns, (not alarm guns, but actual pistols, with a trip wire to the trigger)they used to be really common as late as the 1800s. and man traps marketed as "Thigh crackers".....makes you shudder. G The law says the landowner owns the land and all game on it wild or released thats why you need permission from the landowner Y.I.S Leeview 1 Quote Link to post
baldockbanks courser 598
i heard round my old way in lincs they used to put dummy hares in that were concrete inside and dogs would come back with bottom jaw hanging off etc, nasty stuff get real mate.1. how many coursing dogs are used in a way that they run and pick hares up before they move? 2. due to my own mistake iv sent my lurchers to "rabbits" in the seat only to find they were bricks or rocks that the dogs struck and they certainlie didnt break there jaw. 3. Most the time when you see "sighns" for trip wires as I did at wisbeach 10 year ago they are put there by lads who have permission to course the land and dont want there hares poached.its a bluff theres no wires We dont live in the victorian times now. too many wives tales in the lurcher world. guyliath 15
Hi leeview, I understand fully that the law says the hares, rabbits, and deer are the property of whoever owns the land. but I was saying that law is a joke. How can you or I "own" wild animals. I was having a little rant at a ridiculous law, not saying that they were in effect no ones property. Sorry I wasn't clearer.;-) All the best, YIS G Quote Link to post
longarm 2
last year 1 of my dogs ran through the hedge on some local farm land, public right of way i might add, as she past through she let out a real yelp, when i cheched her she had a cut on her chest, not to bad , but i thought ile have a look in the hedge to see what caused it, to my horror the farmer had put 16" metal spike all along a run through the hedge, hangled and about 10" apart, i found 11 sets of these along the hedge rows witch i pulled out , a week later i saw the famer so i thought ide have a word, all he had to say was its my land and itle keep you c***s from coursing and if your dog gets killed its your fault now fcuk off, :censored: i told im if he does it again ile phone the rozzers and if they wont do owt ile come back and kill every 1 of your fcuking live stock to witch he just laughed, toser Edited February 8, 2011 by longarm Quote Link to post

terrierjohn 49
theres a wood near me that has barb wire from tree to tree all the way through the wood with a ditch surrounding the woo wich has a fence either side and one in the middle i've had a few close calls with the dogs going towards that wood never came across wires in the fields though but the odd pile of barb wire left hidden in the heather and had a dog plough right over it just small nicks but the dog was covered in them worst one was a 2 inch long slice but up here theres 2 or 3 local farmers that are more than happy to shoot a dog on sight Quote Link to post

Those boards were put up by the Calender CC who had permission to course there How did they get permission? by telling the landowners if they were given permission they would sort the poaching out next time the police stopped them they were nt poaching the landowner had given them permission Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
