Rat/Mouse Bait?

Recommended Posts

My loft is being hammered with mice, I have been useing some stuff called NEOSOREX <5 bags of the stuff :icon_eek:> and there's still loads running about wrecking everything! they've cleared this this stuff up without hardly making a dent on the population.

Can anyone give me some advice and some other baits I can use as this stuff don't seem to be doing the job?

Cheers

HOW LONG YOU HAD IT DOWN?

IF ITS LES THAN A WEEK , REMMEMBER IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THEM TO DIE.

YOU COULD TRY PUTING IT DOWN AT DIFRENT SPOTS AROUND THE LOFT, AND ALSO HAVE A GOOD LUCK ROUND OTHER AREA'S AROUND YOUR HOUSE AND ANY OUT BUILDINGS.

BUT KEEP FEEDING THEM IF THERE TAKING IT IT MAY TAKE A FEW WEEKS TO FINISH THEM OFF

Its been down now being topped up for weeks Tomo! where ever I look in this loft there is tunnels in the fibreglass Insulation, its two more bags I just emptied out in the pictures making it to 7 all in! I'll take your advice and keep hammering them until hopefully it will dry up ;), is this NEOSOREX any good? it was the cheapest stuff I found from Wilkinsons .

get to b n q, and buy a dozen snap traps......... bait with peanut butter or choc spread.....

this way you get to bin the carcasses, n they decay in yer bin... not yer roof.

(no smell)

if you have a dozen or more dead bodies in yer roof,,, you'll be avin flies n mealworms next..........

If I were you I would clear the pile of bait up that you have put out, then what you need to do is put the bait in different places around the loft in smaller piles, you will probebly be better off putting the bait in to small containers( cut yogurt pots about 2cm and use the bases as little trays, this makes it easyer to move about and you won't have poison every where).Place the baits as close into the sides of the loft walls or tile as you can.The reason why you put out quite a fw baits is because mice are naturally nervous eaters, they wont just have there fill from one food source they have a few nibbles from one then move to another. The bait you are using is a whats called a multi feed bait and it can take a little while to work but usually one feed is enough to finish them off.Putting a few snap traps down like donkey suggested is a good idea as well as the bait.I hope this has been help full.

Donks and Ratcatcher have beaten me to it! :D I spotted this post just before I dashed out for the rest of the day and meant to get back to ye, mate. Both these lads are absolutely spot on, of course. Their combined posts read like a mini manual for your situation. Should do to; I know Donks is a Pro and, by the sounds of it, 'Ratcatcher' is too :good:

May I just add one more suggestion? Look out for " Little Nipper " mouse traps is what I'd do. The so called " Rentokil " ones can be super excellent, but ye don't half pay for them! 'Kness Snap E' we know them as. Black trap with a yellow bar. Ye could certainly use a dozen traps up there and a dozen of those f*kkas, at retail prices? Might as well hire a Pro' and let him sort it out!

I say 'Nippers because most of the el cheapo, continental shit ye see these days have firing actions that defy a mouses natural behaviour to make them go off. The chinese plastic ones? Up to you. But I wouldn't set one myself. Springs like ball point pens.

If ye go with the 'Nippers, take ye time! They work on the full treadle action and are absolutely deadly. IF ye set them fine enough and don't just set for elephant and slap them down. So, just take ye time and remember what has to set it off weighs only a few grams, and it's not going to be using that treadle as a trampoline either.

Amateurs biggest down fall, mate; Baiting with cheese and setting for hippo!

Often wryly amuses me; How many people wouldn't dream of calling in a Professional for their pests, yet just shrug and pay out when they require a complete Re Wireing because of what the buggers did!

Cheers all for the Help :drink:! All put all the advice into good use and hammer the little furry b*****ds , I'll get out today and get some traps! I started knocking up a little sea saw trap last night so hopefully I'll catch one of the enemy live in the flesh ;).

Funny you should say about the wiring Ditch! the hall light has been on the blink and packed up a couple of days ago, I stuck a new bulb in thinking it was the problem but no joy. them little b*****ds have hammered my loft chewing through the kids toy box's and bags and pissing all over the place, time for some pay back me thinks :victory:......

Cheers

:icon_eek: Hang a f*cking bout, mate! Ye have kids in the house? And the mice are up there, assaulting ye wiring as we speak? Amidst sundry Combustables???

Jasper; Get a Professional in mate. TODAY! Please! This is no time or situation to ~ if ye'll forgive me ~ f*ck about playing the have a go hero routine. 75% of 'Fires of unknown origin' are officially put down to rodent activity. You're living in a f*cking time bomb, mate and the clock's well and truly ticking.

Have a word with Donks there. He's a member of a Professional body who's lads cover the country. Maybe he can sort out someone near enough to get to ye quickly? They'll certainly be up to the job and will bring kit you simply can't get ye hands on and will deploy it right.

I had a 'chewed wires' job the other week and was able to use some stuff called " Brodifacoum " in a special formulation. It knocks them over like skittles. Never mind if ye end up with the odd stinker ~ that too can be dealt with. Better a faint whiff for a day or two than the ever lasting smell of charred ...

Not wishing to scare ye to death - unless that helps stop ye roasting. But your situation scares me to death mate. It should cost ye round about the fifty quid mark, depending on ye area. I'd be up there myself as a f*ckin favour. Then I'd sleep better at night too.

Get it sorted mate. That's Professional advice :good:

Nice one Ditch :drink:

the missus went into town earlier and brought back a Armory of NEOSOREX and some self sets. I know you're 100% right that it need sorting ASAP but hopefully I can blitz them now with the advice given! I have been in the loft and now planted the stuff in different area's as adviced in this link, I have also finished my seasaw trap on the lines of John's plans so I can catch a little b*****d and meet the enemy face to face before he is executed .

I'll give it a week at the most and if I'm making no head way its bring the big boys in :victory:, I had a quick look at the wireing to the Hall light while I was up there! Feck knows where they chewed it but there is no live from the switch to the Light

Cheers

I know you're right Nixy! the missus went out and brought a few traps and some more poisen this morning, so far 4 of the little b*****ds have met their maker, includeing one I caught in the little seasaw trap I knocked up, I can't beleive the daft fecker wandered into a DIY trap I knocked up out of a load of off cuts .

I'll be up and down the loft this evening reseting traps as that have fired, hopefully I'll make a dent in them if not I'll bring in the cavalry :victory:..

Is that Sticky Boards??? Sooner they Ban those damn things completely off the face of the earth, the better :censored:

" Non Toxic " ? Nor was the Gin Trap, for chrissake. But rodents still rip their own limbs off, disembowel themselves and god alone knows what else in that gue.

If I Ever so much as felt a passing temptation to stoop to that level against a rodent, I'd hang up my torch and go stack shelves at Tesco.

And it's nothing personal, Showman. I'm well known for going for my fellow Pro's when They admit to sinking to that level. Sticky Boards don't do anything a well handled trap can't, in my opinion. It's just that a trap does it swiftly and Humanely. Not over the course of hours of agony.

'Sorry'. But those things just disgust me.
