scothunter 12,609
Ok recently read a few posts and there mention of running them fit, which got me thinking back when i kept greyhounds. a few lads i came across told the same tale. "my dog does not like being walked, prefers to be brought up to fitness by galloping over the parks"! now i have always maintained that was more the preference of the owners being lazy c**ts and hated walking the dogs.now dont get mer wrong running them is a must and certainly gets them fit, however i find walking a dog to be a major part in maintaining a dogs fitness and building up its feet and giving the dog plenty stamina by some serious road work.not to mention the value to yourself,by being out there keeping your self fit and seeing whats around the area. just curious to see what others think. FightTheBan 1,147
I think there has to be a balance. No doubt road work will better a dogs feet and fitness, but they still need a stretch, ideally after something with 4 legs. FTB Edited February 7, 2011 by FightTheBan Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354
my opinion after nearly 40 yrs involvement wi racing / running dogs is of course there has to be a balance but the real dogmen know that every dog is different, some love walking others need it to keep them keen, overrunning can aggrevate some injuries, walking them early does toughen up pads, tendons, joints etc, running helps them find their feet and balance when young etc. i think its a question of knowing your dog / dogs and treating them accordingly Quote Link to post

Just to add they do not work all the time ,just when there is the occasional rabbit and there aint many over our fields ! Quote Link to post
