stiggy 6
lots of us carry knives when out wandering with the dogs, i usually have my leatherman, the thing is as its a lock knife i believe it not legal? if that the case what is legal and what aint? i have read that the blade needs to be under 3 inch? is an opinel legal as the blade can be locked? just wondering as when out and about i dont fancy getting nicked for carrying an offensive weapon. I use an opinel knife and leave it in my jacket.
Rake aboot 4,936
It is legal to carry any slipjoint knife (non locking blade) with a blade of 3" or less, no reason is needed but it can still fall into the offencive weapon category if you threaten someone with it. I carry a small Case whittler with me everywhere, at all times. ANY knife ,sword ,machete, chainsaw can be carried, if you have good reason for it. If you have any of the above with you in the car, with no good reason ,this is an offence. unless locked in the boot ( NOT in the hatchback, ie in the back of the landy, as the inside of your car is a public place. ATB The knife I take fishing is practically a machette and have come across the police 2 or 3 times when fishing from piers etc in the summer and it has been a non issue even when I have held it in my hand with tourists walking past me. If I wasn't fishing or started threatening people with it I would expect to get arrested. Seems to me you had a bad copper and an even worse brief.
