this can happen to the best of people after putting everything into the dog. a bloke who started me in lurchers 1985 had a dog despite putting everything into it it failed, it ran half heartedly and generally had no intrest in hunting he kept it 3 years then it had to go. he had good dogs before this one and good ones after. if the dog is obedient it will have more chance of a pet home.must be a big disapointment to you .but you have to make a decision try the dog for longer to see if she improves or part company and start again good luck to you.

i have just spent the last 16 months training exercising feeding and nerturing my bitch.to be honest i could have guessed she would be no world beater a few months ago but to end up with a dog that just isnt really interested in game is gutting to say the least.i could exept a dog that isnt the best as long as its an honest tryer but to just sling the brakes on and not really bother makes me proper angry.not one for putting dogs to sleep and dont really like shifting them about but whats the point in having a hunting dog that dont want to hunt.shes gotta go i think.just gotta find a goodpet home now .ireally have given this dog chance after chance to come around but she just seems less interested every time i go out.looks like ill be starting again.has anyone else had dogs that just dont want to know.

Her mother was a slow starter as i have said,,,she was best from 3 to 7 years old,, shes 10 now and was out running stuff keen as even not last nigh but the night before,,, there is a fair dose of deerhound blood in the line,, which are renowned slow starters,, but beleave me when they come good they come good,, they are a dog for life,,,,,, Matt i wil take her back no messing,, but i would urge you too keep hold of her mate,,, i would be tempted to leave her off till next season and let the bitch mature,, not just in body but in mind. I have took it very steady with her sister as shes a slow starter,, but if iam honest i think these type make the better dog in the long run.

i can show the dog more game than 3 dogs could run in a night.i pick and choose my slips because im lucky enough to be able to.shes caught a few.the other night she caught 4 then quit.two nights later same thing caught a couple then quit.shes very fast and is in no way out classed by her quarry.that is of coarse if she wanted it

 

No but we've had two dog that were not doing it for the last owner, then after some time with us they come good, very good! and the last owner was pissed!!

All i would say is its 16month some dog don't get their till 2/3 years old! so stick with it!

f**k me my bitch was a little c**t from 4-7 month old and me being a stress head the dog picked up on it so acted up even more

so i stepped back asked a few mates for advice read up on sal X's and understood what she needed from me and it all turned around in two weeks!

I was the one in the wrong every bit of stress was going down the lead from me to the dog!

yeah i took her out with them.i showed them some bigger stuff but without the teeth.done this twice in the space of an hour but she just stood thier on the lead.no back flippin or anything.she ran with them after rabbits but i think that she was literally just running with them rather than after the rabbit.

i thought that other thing would spark her off but it dont seem to have.to be fair think she was just playing with it.just lucky the way it come down and couldnt get away cos i was on it by then .no i dont feed her [bANNED TEXT] outing mate and you wont offend me fella your just trying to build a pic in your own head so crack on and ask what you like mate.

My whippet dog was exactly the same, his first (learning) season he did very well, showed great promise. His next (proper) season he was horrible, pulled up at hedgerows/fences, some slips he did not even bother to run if he thought they were too near an edge or too far away. The type of land here, small fields, lots of edges, you have to do long slips to stand any chance of getting anything. I had always been used to bully x, do or die dogs, so this was very disheartening for me.

I put a thread up on a different forum, some people called him a jacker, said he would never be any good, others said...wait, when he mentally matures he will be spot on. So pleased i waited, when he hit 2yrs he totally changed, this little dog now puts his heart and soul into everything he does, and is an absolute pleasure to take out. It even seems as if he learned by his mistakes...if he don't try, he don't get! Dont mean to be blunt but if you give up on this bitch now, then you would be the jacker not the dog
