wife 1
i get out every weekend and any other opportunity i get, booked the day off work to have a look for a keeper today, had a call of a keeper earlier this week asking me to try a wood that had some holes 100 yards from his pens, the pheasents have been a bit spooky as he has lost a few birds over the last few weeks, made a phone call to a freind of mine who has some good terriers and with the help of another freind we set out to look for the fox,the first hole we tried was to be the one, only thing being was the soil we had to dig through, the terrier of my freinds stayed down for just over 3 hours of hard digging to a 6 foot mark on the locator, after we got down to her at 6 foot the fox had gone down another 2 foot,we could not reach the fox with the gun so we gave the 1 dog a rest as she had been down for 3 hours and put her son in which also belongs to my mate, only a 2 foot dig further down but again this took a good hour ,we finally got down to a dog fox and one of the lads finished it with a clean shot and put a end to him, keeper was well happy when we got back to the farm Quote Link to post
Guest nitevision
good thread going here, the two terriers i have are yet to be properly tested due to there age, there time will come, only jumping in here as i dont really post that much these days when iv been out with my lurchers,it almost seems that you are discouraged ,iv heard all the arguements for and against putting pics up,i enjoy a good read the same as the next bloke, but a few pics tell the story much better,in my opinion, there are plenty on these forums who need to get out more with their dogs and do some hunting.i only found these forums a while ago,met some good people, had some good hunting with them, over the last year they have changed, not for the better i feel, but then isnt that the way with a lot of things in life. tommy1967 47
some people are also put of with few replys that they get ,300 people might view ur thread but only 6 or so would reply,i get out as much as i can should it be lamping, checking earths or out with the hounds, all i do at work is think about the weekend coming what holes will i check on a saturday and then what cover will i beat on a sunday but the most important thing is as long as im with my dogs and taking great pleasure in watching them work.i love reading other peoples stories and [bANNED TEXT] can learn from other peoples experences were not all experts we all had [banned Text] learn some were.we should try and encourage the young ones instead of dishearting them. Lew 111
theres 3 reasons why i dont post threads fellas: 1. as im 16 the only way i can get out is to get on the trains and 9 times out of 10 we blank but its the only way. 2. i have no dogs until next season to dig to because i only have a 8 month pup. 3. i have no camara haha i could post about blanks but there is no point at all. well keep on trying tho Quote Link to post

jrb 0
interesting topic Eamon, I dont often post on here because ive been out of the game for a few years now, but i do like to keep up with the scene as it was a big part of my life for nearly 20 years. A lot of the posts on here are very good, there are 2 or 3 chaps on here who i would like to have beer with and talked terriers... Some of the posts are pointless and sometimes embarrasing ! but thats forums, everybody has an opinion. We always used to joke at the shows that if every terrier there was an honest, reliable digging dog, then the fox would be extinct ! I still consider myself a terrierman, albeit a terrierless one (bar the family blue staff ) and have many great memories of digging in Wales, Ireland, Essex, Kent and Suffolk and i salute you boys out there still digging. One small bug-bear though... the 'Trophy Photo's ' are, in my opinion, un-necessary and only provide ammunition to those who have made our sport increasingly difficult. I fully understand the pride you feel for your dogs, but the images of dead charlies in back gardens is not what i consider to be about what terrier work is about. looking forward to lots more debate, all the best lads. Guest whitser
If you have a blanker tell us, if you kill a rat tell us, if your dog runs a dead earth tell us, at least it's better than reading about whose breedings shite week in week out. And for all those who have posted meaningful threads with something different to read thankyou and long may it continue.Fight the ban and work your dogs, lets have some continuity.JMHO. agreed. i like to read how lads get on in the field not read posts bad mouthing other men, mwether its deserved or not.
