like the idea of the feeder pipe to the spool very clever do you get any problems with the tension on the line as its reeling in ?

just had a go with it on the lamp, brilliant to try and get my whippet pup to work out squatters. i will take some little videos to show you tomorrow, the spool does not need to be very big atall it was milles fast enougth just a few flicks of the switch is al it needed. is there any way i can get a speed varible switch in it, im not very good with electrics? if not its fine how it is just a thought.

what can i use as pullys/rollers to add corners to the course? i mite just make some up.

got my brain ticking over now :hmm:

surely i can get an old starter motor from the scrappy for about £5-£10...

as for line, surely 2mm nylon braid would do the trick ? if so www.renco.co.uk its about £5.50 a kilo, 290m's on a kilo.

Thinking of guidance, perhaps just a bit of 2mm fence wire with an "o" bent in the top, stuck in the ground could do the trick.

hi old skool,

get down the scrappy's and get some battery cable pos and neg off of a car as "normal" cable won't take the amps that are being kicked out.

As for line .... sea fishing line ?, braided nylon string from ironmongers or dralon cord from a kite

shop springs to mind as you can buy this in 100 meter spools.

yes i think you will need a guide something along the lines of a Fairlead used on 4x4 winches just

smaller poss with a spring tensioner (rear derailer from a push bike? ) to keep the string under tension

as it is being fed onto the spool otherwise it could all tangle up

here is one i prepared earlier....... :D:D

I have been looking into this for some time and the picture above i have been useing as a reference

for the one i am building ;) except that i want to bolt it into the back of my van ..... its a sailplane launching winch and judging by the response from blando it could be quite a nice little earner..:hmm::whistle:

here is a link that could be usefull as well as it not far off what you have built so far

howto build a lure machine

cheers and keep us updated

is there any way i can get a speed varible switch in it, im not very good with electrics? if not its fine how it is just a thought.

from what i can guess, you would have to use some form of variable resistor :hmm: do a search for "MAPLIN" or "RS COMPONENTS" an im sure you'll get something.... the worst scenario would be the resistor blowing up, but your getting a high amperage on the outgoing side of the motor, so i think it should be fine ...

good luck :good:

yep,

thats what i was going for with some form of speed control

got to ask at work as there is a guy who is the dogs b****x at

that sort of stuff.

As for batterys i've got the bloody things comeing out of

my ears as i repair ups's (emergency power for the IT industry) ;)

so sealed lead or gel batts ,the sort that you can get ripped off for at Deben

Arthur Clark etc, are not a problem  and lighter than a car batt plus they

have a bit more girth (amps ) than a normal 12 v "lamping" batt.

great thread this and good to see some of the other ideas that people

have had

hi lads just a thought i run my lure off my lamping batt,so if you had a dimmer switch for your lamp theres your variable power for your lure.

after reading all your replies on this, got me wanting to have a go at making one, and I aint even got a lurcher.............YET :D

so, can an electrical 240v motor be worked from a battery???

if so, may have the solution for your speed controller....
