question about obedience

when i got my dog i was told he had been lamped twice and had seen abit in the day, i have had him out mooching daytime and gave him a slip or 2 and everything is perfect, recall jumping im 100% happy with, then on a night time he is clueless, even just taking him for a walk on the field out the back so he can relieve himself he is as ignorant as f**k just runs off and hunts up along the side of the factorys, he did the same when i tried him on the lamp, rabbit was 30 yards away and he ran over it and just carried on pi**ing about, since i have had him he has had a hand full of daytime rabbits live to hand so whats the crack with a night time

fresh smells of rabbits maybe getting dog over excided,try going some where where there is no bunnys nd do his retreveing on lamp there,worth a try?

How old is the dog?

Might be just a pup playing about with youth when he thinks he can get away with it, if he's young it should ge better

he will be 15 months and ive had him 2 weeks, i no its only 2 weeks b ut he is 100% daytime so how he such a pain in the arse after dark

sorry to sound harsh, but you have probably discovered the reason the previous owner got rid of the dog.

 

I'm afraid it's back to the basics with it recall, recall, recall and a lot of bonding.

ive kept him on the lead the past couple of nights for his (toilet) walk, tbh i do more daytime with ferrets etc anyway but it would still be great if i could get him doing both day and night

Like as been said the dog needs to start to learn the lamping from scratch so just take your time you have only had him 2 weeks think you might be rushing it all abit and from the photos i seen on another post you did he looks a nice sort if you give the dog plenty time and get a good bond going this time next year you will have a good hunting partner there is no rush alb troter

i no might be what want 2 hear but it might have been more then the fox problem ,i think it might time 2 go back 2 basics ,have not got other mates with lurchers that is catching ,retrieveing and recall 200% for him 2 watch how its done ,what ever you do don,t take it out with un experience dogs as bad habbitts aswell as good can rub off on your dog,keep me posted mate as i might be able 2 help
