No justification to do something like this, even the worst of the worst in lurcher lads could never stoop to those standards, butchery in the name of sport.

course there would be! Rabbits are vermin pal! A hare isnt. It was the kings sport mate to run a dog on hare.. Feck me, at one time the rule was, you couldnt hunt hares on a sunday, now you can kill f

how the f**k can you not be allowed run your dog on say five hares in one day but you can shoot over 200, this country is f*****g backwards.

Not sure I would admit to shooting or catching up game out of season

This is the real world dan........... :tongue2: When do you propose i ask the keepers to catch up some hens for laying, maybe the start of January maybe..... :hmm::hmm:

It isn't me that proposes you catch up in season british law does.

as I said I am not sure that I would admit to it I didn't say it doesn't happen, fact is though it is illegal to catch up after the season so maybe the reason you ask keepers to catch up then and break the law is so that greedy shoot owners get their moneys worth from the birds I am sure the anti's will just love to hear all about that :tongue2:

wonder how you get on with getting your rifle varied to shoot game birds out of season???

I know what your saying Dan......little bit tongue in cheek from me......

I wouldn't have said its to line the pockets of greedy land owners either, generally its an added extra of poults for the keeper so his numbers look a little better at the end of the season....

With a bit of luck the law is set to change on catching up think it is only scotland though to allow catching till the end of february.

have to say my returns are shocking this year we made bag every day but the shot count for the year was 7.6-1 think I need to push them a bit lower next season :icon_eek:

Do you count the birds that are not picked Dan? Do you use a clicker on days that you know the guns are useless. Its these shit shots that put a dent in your numbers i'd say, peppering most of the birds instead of killing them..... :wallbash:

Yes mate we click the shots and count spent cartridges but only count birds picked, as all 15 days are family days it really makes no difference what returns we get as long as they have a good day and make some where close to bag but as you know there is a huge amount of pride involved when a keeper talks of percentage returns. The worst day this year was a 200 bird day they managed 192 for 1680 shots :wallbash: we kept running the guns out of cartridges :icon_redface:

Still alot of pressure....more so maybe as there all the bosses days...... :(

I asked if you counted none picked birds as that might give you a closer percentage to what your looking for mate. I didnt count them also when i had a shoot i just counted the bag at the end of the day. But i am now picking up at a shoot where each drive is logged in a wee book, the total in the cart is written down and beside that is the number of birds that weren't picked. Now i'm not talking about a tickled bird i'm talking about runners that are not picked and really hard hit birds that go miles away.

I reckon on a 200 bird shoot normally there are 20 to 30 birds that are just not possible to pick for whatever reason and over the course of a 40 day season that ammounts to 800-1200 birds not accounted for........ :o Now that doesn't half lift the percentage at the end of the year....

p.s I'll just add its not my dogs missing the birds...............

Yes mate - we have this problem! Our return this year is a bit worrying until you take into account what the f*****g boar ate and what dropped down over one of our boundries into no mans land (they throw rocks at us if we go to pick up!). Also been finding shot birds with the dogs day after the shoot which makes me a a little angry!!! (Considering i'm using sighthounds and they fuckers have labs). But yer, counting these makes our return look a bit better!

Thank christ we dont have boar up here as well!!!. We also have a drive on the boundary that we are not allowed to go onto, its a top drive too and the old boot that stays over there is always there with her spaniel and fat rescue lab'......i have moments of deafness but i'm sure she is shouting "Get those bloody labs' off my property"...... :whistling:

If in the future i do get another shoot(always looking) then i will be counting these birds that get away, i think a decent set of guns when shooting shite should understand why you are counting them......

The f*****g boar know what the score is now mate. They line up behind the guns and run to get under the falling birds! Wont touch a unharmed bird but soon as its pricked its lunch! I think its fair to run two totals. Total picked and total shot for the season (as best guess). Sometimes also sit behind the gun line (a fair way) on certain drives (with dodgy boundry) and act as back gun, dropping the glidders that have been pricked well and are going to run, helps a bit and not a prob if the guns are happy with that. When you get a shoot gimmie a shout. . . . .. . :tongue2::thumbs:
